Navigation Problem

sorry if this is a repeated thread, looked around for answers but only found similar problems

when i start my car an error stating "disk read error, please consult your dealer" pops up. ive gone into the setup and tried to reload both the car and disk but they both say neither is there. ive taken out the disk multiple times and its clean, still wont work. This error happens 100 percent of the time i can not go to the menu or map, but i can go to the audio, a/c screens, etc. i would really like to find a way to fix this as i am a college student and do not have the 2-3000 dollars to have acura fix it nor do i have even the 160 for alpine to fix it

any suggestions?

I'd go back to whoever did the subs and make sure the wiring is OK. Otherwise sounds like a fried DVD drive and that, as you have guessed, is not inexpensive. I was pricing mine last year and it was a min $1500 at dealer cost. I'd really try to make sure nothing became disconnected from the drive and check all the wiring in that area first.

You can try a cd cleaner....around 10 bucks.....it worked for mine.....also you can try using another acura dvd that u can borrow from anyone with a similar year acura or honda. Sometimes the problem is not the unit, but the dvd.
I forgot to mention that if after cleaning it doesn't work, you can also try disconnecting the battery for 30 minutes so the computer resets. That could help if the problem is the unit not the dvd.

If all else fails you can ship your DVD drive to Alpine and they will fix it. Search for other posters who have done this. much cheaper than a new drive.
