MT-6 speed reverse

I have a 2005 TSX ~43000km. Just recently, the reverse has been hard to get into. I have to push the stick hard all the way to the right to get it in. I goes in smoothly without grinds, but I have to really jam it hard for it to go in.
Any idea?

You're pressing the clutch all the way in?

It's a legitimate question. Your response isn't likely to cause many people to take interest in helping. Me included.

Sorry, I've been driving stick all my life and I took that question as an insult.
Yes, I am pressing the clutch all the way.
It kind of seems like there is not enough travel when you push the stick all the way to the right.
Once I smash it to the right is goes in like butter, which would not be the case if the clutch was not fully dissengaged.

A couple things could be the culprit. Your MT fluid, how old is and it might be due for a change. Check you hydrolic clutch fluid level. It could be a little low. Bleed and put in some new stuff. Third if all that fails look on top of your transmission at the linkage while someone engages the gear and reverse to see if you can notice any hickups. Other then that good luck that's all I can think off. How does it go into reverse with the car off?

The car has 40000 km on it, I doubt it needs a fluid change. I'll check the level. It seems more like likage issue. All gears go in like butter, even reverse. I just have to push it really hard all the way to the right. It almost seems like there is not enough travel in the stick itself.

I have found when I have a 'tougher' time getting gear into reverse, I shift into first and then back to reserve, it slides in (that's what she said). Going to first, first, lines up the synchros.

There are no synchros on reverse because it would be really stupid to visit that gear while the car is moving. Shifting into reverse slides a third cog in between two fixed cogs on the drive and secondary shafts. These gears have straight cut teeth so they can slide laterally. When you shift into first you're actually tweaking the position of the two shafts a bit so the teeth aren't running directly into each other anymore and can slide together.

Booster, if I understand your problem correctly, it's the side to side movement of the shifter that is the problem? Is there increased resistance through the "normal" section of the gearbox or is it only that last couple cm between 5th/6th and reverse?

+1 ... not sure about the synchros, but shifting into first and then back always solves the problem (which is rare)

When you are going into reverse is your car still in motion? cause whenever I let go of the brake and the car is in gentle rolling motion, it tends to be hard to kick into gear.

and stop with the "that's what she said"! my roommates are driving me crazy with that! JK JK

Well, all of you guys were way off on that one.
I popped the hood this morning and inspected the tranny cables. Both brackets that hod the cables to the tranny were loose. In fact one of them was already missing a screw and all the others have backed out half way.
I haven't fixed it yet, but I am pretty sure that's what the problem is.

Actually I was going to tell you to check the cables depending on the feedback I got from the questions I asked above. I don't know how you expect any one to guess your problem correctly when we don't have the car in front of us and you give us such vague information.

Edit: Go back and shmork53's response. He told you to look at exactly where the problem turned out to be. You suck at reading.

I like people who ask for advice, and then don't read all the advice given. Its good the problem was found and its simple to fix.

It's especially nice when they cop a shitty attitude about like it was some how all our failing rather than his own.

HAHA, no pants in a twists no feelings hurt (my wife tells me I have none). No need to be sorry. you asked for advice and it was given. Hope your car gets fixed and there are no more problems. The sooner you get that fixed the better.

You've had a shitty attitude from the get go. I take offense to your sense of entitlement and the utter ingratitude you show while at the same time asking for help. The fact that you then squandered the help that was offered due to either your laziness or simple incompetence then come back to belittle us as though your failure to accept what was offered you is somehow our fault just rubs me the wrong way.

LukeaTron,
I now understand that you are a little more sensitive than most..iand that's ok.
I was trying to put a little friendly banter into my post, but you totally missinterpreted it.
Again, I am sorry if I hurt your feelings.

BTW,
The problem has been rectified now that I've replaced the missing bolt and tightened all the others.
Thank you all for your valuable advice ;o)

Alright then. If that's actually the case, I apologize. I'm not above admitting my mistakes. Tone does not translate well in written text and needs to be more or less spelled out.

So let me start again. Welcome to forum and let us know how it works out or if you've got any more questions. There's an amazing amount of knowledge accumulated here. Have you done anything recently that might account for bracket becoming loose?

Edit: Glad to hear it's fixed and hopefully back to being one of the most awesome shifting transmissions ever built.

Thanks for the welcome.
Let me give you a little background on myself. I've owned cars since I was a teenager. I almost always performed all work on my cars myself. The only time I'd use a mechanic would be if I did not have the necessary tools to perform the repair/install.
I've broken a fair share of things as well as diagnosed and repaired them. I've done things ranging from replacing engine/tranny/clutch/struts....blah, blah to simple stereo/speaker/sensors installs and fuel management.
I've mostly owned cars with manual transmission.
I also have extensive experience with forced induction. I've owned two turbocharged cars, with the most recent one being an Eagle Talon TSI. That was the most powerful car I’ve owned so far. It netted over 300whp, which is quite a handful in an fwd car.
By profession, I am systems administrator, but cars are my passion.
