The motherload of all problems

I was driving to the convience store a few nights ago and i am going up a hill and the Tranny(AT) loses grip. I couldn't move the car, it felt like it was in Nuetral. I turn off and then restart it because the car in the middle of the road and i am rolling backwards. I am able to get up the hill but i notice that the car cant get grip over 2grand. i pull it in to the driveway. After this happening, i was going to bring it to acura the next morning. When i try start it, the tranny doesnt grip at all. I call a tow truck which took 3 hours to come, they deliver it to the dealership and then i get a call today that they need to put in a tranny, master cylinder and it needs new brake rotors. They said they were sending my transmission to japan for further investigation because the problem was so unique. It was all covered under warranty but it was a monumental pain in the ass.. I hope no one else has this problem

I've seen the same problem occur in my mom's 2002 TL. Basically the tranny failed, but we managed to get it to the dealership before it died completely. We had it replaced under warranty as well. It kinda worries me that this is happening on the TSX as well.

Please keep us updated on how things turn out.

Should've got a 6MT.

Kidding, and that seems like it will be a major problem if more cars start showing up with that problem. It could cause a wreck if you didnt know how to react.

What's the VIN? I wonder if Acura has a bad batch of ATs on their hands.

And the AT saga continues...

domn, I hear you're running out of a warranty pretty soon, better cash in and get yourself a 6MT quick!

Sounds like the same problem my friend just dealt with on his 00 CL-S. He barely escaped losing his life because he was going 65mph when this happened. He said all the warning indicators went crazy on the dash, and then BAM tranny was dead.

Keep us posted. I really hope that the TSX doesn't have this problem. I have only had my car since April 10, have 13k miles on it. Makes me wonder if I should look to extend my warranty.

For the record, there's been more 6MT TSX tranny failures than AT, So I'd be if I were you

Zamboni, very sorry to hear it, I'd know I'd be damn pissed if this happened to me. I' also like to know your VIN (build #) and also how many miles did you have?

Between the original post & follow-ups I'm a bit confused - the tranny blew up because of the extra stress going UPHILL or it failed because it failed ?

Was that a above-average steep hill ?
What's the load on the car at the time ?
And yes VIN # plz.

I would venture to say that the tranny failed just because it failed. The same situation happened with the last gen TLs and CLs so it's really not a totally new problem.

There is bound to be some failures, so I doubt its of general concern.

So why did your brakes and rotors fall under the warranty?

Sounds like his dealer recognized that the brakes and rotors may have become damaged as a result of the tranny failing on the hill?

I recall there was a recall on a batch of transmissions that came with the wrong case. These were early production models and were fixed under warranty.

That is, only because they never got around to selling all the cars with the bad AT trannies on that train crash.

sauceman, who is really getting a kick at picking on the AT drivers, especially domn, who always seems to have the right reply to keep it going...
