More problems than expected...

My 2005 TSX non-navi is in the shop again! I have had more unexpected maintenance done to my car than I would like. Don't get me wrong, I love my car, but it's less than 2 years old and I have brought it in for the following already:

Problem: Within 2 months of purchase, I was experiencing a buzzing noise instead of starting my car when I cranked. The buzzing sound seemed to come from the steering column and happened randomly. I posted in the Problems/Fixes section back then, and seems like some other people had this problem also.
Solution: Dealer said that the battery failed a load test. The battery has been replaced free and I have not experienced this problem again.

Problem: Third brake light stopped working. I had to find this out from a cop! Luckily, no ticket of any kind was involved.
Solution: Dealer replaced bulb free.

(car in for the following)
Problem: Right side plastic air duct cover fell off. I don't know how/what exactly happened, but one night while driving on the freeway, I heard a loud *thump* like I ran over something. When I checked, my duct cover was gone! There were not scratches or damage around that area so I don't believe I hit anything to cause it to fall off. Stuff shouldn't be falling off a less than 2 year old car.
Solution: Dealer will replace free.

Problem: Sometimes, I go through my local Chevron's touchless car wash and then wipe down the car with clean towels I keep in the trunk. Last week, I did that and the next day my power locks stopped working. Seems like the driver side lock doesn't respond to the remote while locking or unlocking. Because the driver side doesn't work, the rest of the locks don't work correctly either. For the past week, I had to manually lock and unlock...
Solution: Dealer will fix free.

Problem: HID condensation recall. I got a letter in the mail telling me to get this recall done about 2 months ago... I was going to get it done with my next oil change, but plans changed due to power lock issue. I know this problem is not specifically to me, but nonetheless it's still an unexpected problem that needs to be corrected.
Solution: Dealer will address by adding clips...

I can understand if I had all these problems over a span of 4 years or something, but I got my car late 2005. My car should be ready at around 2pm today. In the meantime, I'm zipping around in an 2007? ASM TSX non-navi dealer loaner. For some reason, it feels slower than my stock 2005, maybe it had a bad break-in.

Anyone else as unlucky as I am with my TSX?

Nope. Only the headlight thing and the HVAC controls going out for me. Going in on the 23rd for a new circuit board to fix the lights. I was just in last week for my 40k mile service so I'm a little annoyed, but it's being fixed for free and it's not a big problem so I'm not that bothered.

It does seem like an inordinate number of problems in a relatively short time. I don't blame you for being disappointed. The saving grace is that the dealer has resolved all the problems you mentioned.

I purchased my 04 in December of 2003. Its been to the dealer for regularly scheduled maintenance and the following:
- Trunk Harness Recall (dealer took care of it during my first oil change)
- Blue stain on drivers seat (dealer replaced seat cover under warranty)
- Driver's seat shifting (dealer fixed under warranty)
- Right rear camber out of spec (dealer performed TSB)
- Moisture in headlight recall (dealer performed recall)

My TSX has made 2 unscheduled (not part of scheduled maintenance) visits to the service department. Once to take care of the shifting drivers seat and the second time when the new seat cover came in. I've had minor rattles come and go, I don't have any currently *knock on wood*

Overall, I'm happy. I realize that no car is perfect and so far I've been out-of-pocket $0.00 for fixing things. I worry a bit about what will happen after my warranty runs out, particularly as I've read 3 or 4 reports of A/C compressors failing, and not so much anymore about the display going out now that the TSB has been issued and coverage extended.

Yep, I'm glad I'm out $0 so far, it's just a little annoying to make unscheduled dealer stops. Like you, after experiencing all these small issues, I'm also a bit concerned about cost after my warranty is over. Right now, I'm a little glad that I opted for the extended warranty when I bought my car.

Your list doesnt seem too bad. Bulbs have a tendency to go out, so thats just a maintenance issue.

You should see what the BMW and AUDI guys have to go through! So you should consider yourself in good company! JK

PS, how come my sigs aren't showing up?

I can tolerate bulbs burning out and plastic pieces falling off, but as long as there aren't any major engine, transmission, or electrical problems... I plan to keep my car for at least 8 years.

PS. I had that sig issue before, don't know what the fix is...

about the European brands experiencing many more of these types of issues, on average.

And sigs do not show up if you use the quick reply.

My TSX did have a few minor problems, some of which impacted a lot of drivers here and probably could be thought of as the sort of issues that get worked out early in the run of a model: A/C controls went dim, infamous rattle problems in door speakers, seat sliding on rails. I also had the armrest replaced because it was not opening correctly, and they replaced a gasket around the door (because of rattles) and the steering wheel cover came apart.

These were all relatively minor issues that were immediately fixed.

The only truly unexpected problem I had was similar to your issue with the power locks. The driver door just stopped working. Acura fixed that but I saw that as a more serious quality control issue.

I've had no problems in the main systems of the car (engine, brakes, etc), after 60,000 miles.

All new cars have some QC issues, and none of the problems that I did have made the car undriveable or even had a major impact on my enjoyment of the car. So, I am satisfied and reasonably confident in the car's longterm reliability.

I do all scheduled maintenance (e.g. fluid changes, tire rotations, etc) myself. My '04 TSX has never been in the shop (although I do have a few minor rattles). Knock wood!

consider yourself lucky! I've been to the dealer to get some rattles fixed but they just can't find it! That includes the noise from the moonroof, driver air bag and glove box. Driver seat had something snapping while I sit on it and that was after a week I had the car. Cylinder head gasket replaced @ less than 10k. And my tsx is not even 2 yrs. old. Probably, my trips to the dealer counts to more than 10 so far.

Tabs. Luckily, I had not any any additional headlight problems after one was replaced back in '05. Hopefully these tabs will prevent future problems (knock on wood).
