Mild "clunk" when going 2-1 shift.

When putting my 6MT from 2nd to 1st (say approaching a light that is just about to change), I get a "clunk" that I feel in the shifter and can also hear. My wife heard it, too.

Nothing really bad, but I was wondering - has anyone else noticed this in their 2-1 shift? It ONLY happens while in motion (if I'm fully stopped the light and go 2-1, it doesn't do it).

Maybe a slow or otherwise problematic synchro?

Thanks for any advice!

its called don't but Honda transmissions from 2->1. Every Honda MT I've driven just does not shift into first if you're moving. I'd suggest coasting the last little bit.

Even at like 5km/h? My Integra had a lockout at about 15km/h but anything under that and I could shift into it...

I just find it wierd that I get a mild clunk. Anyone else at least experience this clunking, so I know its the car or if its normal?

I also get a clunk, didn't in my first 15k miles, I swear it just started one day, but I don't shift into first, so no biggie. Its probably a synchro

mine doesn't even really like going into 1 from 2. It just doesn't feel right trying to force it, so I just let it coast to a stop after 2nd.

Yeah, I don't do the 2-1 shifts anymore. I figure I give it enough to the syncros when I shift 1-2 at full throttle that I can spare it from the 2-1 shifts in exchange.

It's not really for slowing the car, but to get ready to floor it because the light is about to go green.

It didn't do it at all today, but the again I wasn't going 2-1 that often, if at all...

Thanks guys, I'll just live w/ it and try to not go 2-1 while moving unless absolutely necessary.

I like the logic of saving the synchros because of the beatingt hey take in the 1-2 shift.

Oh, I see. Why don't you get an opinion from the dealer? It should still by under warranty. Good luck either way.

I know what you are talking about. I've done this without any "clunk" by revving the engine slightly and sliding the clutch in, but if I do this once in 6 months, that would be a lot. Its just best not to do a 2-1 shift as a downshift. Again, better matching of the revs to the tranny will make it a clean shift.

I can shift into 1st from 2nd no problem, but the car has to be stopped or barely moving forward. Anything more feels likea lockout so i don't want to force it.
