Could be any number of reasons. The dealership will tell you. Or got to AutoZone or similar. They'll pull the code for you.

9 times out of 10 a check engine light comes on because of a problem with any one of the hundreds of sensors associated with the emissions system. The gas cap is the most common problem but I'm with the rest of the guys, if it doesn't go away after a couple days, bring it to the dealer.

I took it to the dealership, they covered it under warranty, along with fixing the trunk harness that they said was a recall. They said it was becuase some sensor wasent used to the intake, but the guy didnt give me a hard time, i took his buisness card so i can deal with him. SO i leave the lot, rest of the day is fine, driving home on the LIE in pouring conditions, see a A4 half submerged in a puddle, which cuased huge traffic. Next morning, i start up the car, let it idle a minute, drive a block under 3 rpms, and bam, light is back on!! (same way it came on the 1st time..i let the car idle, then took it slow)...im mad pissed, i know its not an emergency, but i dont want to start dishing $$$$ out.

Your car is (presumably) under warranty. What $$ do you think you'd have to dish out??

Did the dealer replace anything? or they simply reset the ECU? Find out what error code the next time.

mine had been blinking for about 2 weeks but I figured it was the gas cap so I let it go. On sat it started to stay on permanently, so I'll have to get it checked soon.

Sounds like the dealer just reset the light but the underlying issue is still there. How long after you installed the CAI did this occur? It could be the dealer is right that something with the CAI install is amiss and the sensors don't like something.

I have to call dealer BS then if it came on after 2000 miles. A sensor has gone bad no doubt. If the intake was the problem it would have been on since install.

Why are you warming up the engine? Modern cars don't need that.

malfunction light on

The same thing happened to me after I got a remote start alarm installed. After several attempts the dealer refused to cover it under warranty. It turned out there was a short in the PC margin which ended up costing about $600 and something after labor and all. Luckily for me the guy who installed the alarm took full responsibility. Good luck, I hope its not the same problem but it's something to think about if you did any mods on the car.

Yea, i just dont know why it would wait 2000 miles to come on. Im not gonna call in an appt just yet, for the sake of not wanting to piss them off. Ill wait about a week or so, then call it in. And really grill him on the problem, maybe bring in my dad, he used to sell cares and he is not a pushover when it comes to this kind of stuff. They easily could have lied to me, i am 18, and i am car-tarted..but i did make sure i got a print out. Ill post the error code in a little bit, forget to get it from my car.

I'd sugest that for the next time you go in to take off the CAI and return the car to stock. It's one less issue upon which the dealer can deny warranty.

Well, im going to leave it in this next time, and talk to the same person as last time. Then im going to tell him, if the problem happens again, im going to bring in my stock intake, and work something out with them installing it. I figure if i pay them to install it back to stock, they will let me keep it under warranty.

*edit-that is word for word, not sure if they had typos on the sheet, or that's weird shorthand for dealerships?*
OK, here is what the INVOICE says.

" A cust sattes check engin elite is on diag and advise
Cuase: 123099
123099 diag w/hds and retrieve code p2422 cvs stuck closed, checkmover all wires and hoses, ran functionn test, cleared code ok" - 128 wa2 0.60

FC: 032-14
par # 17011-sda-a00
count:
Claim type 032-03

----------

Then i think this is for the trunk recall

B install corrigated wire protector as per s/b 04-026

cuase-04-26a
04-0261 install corrigated wire protector as per s/b 04-026- 138 wa2 0/50
1 06321-sea-000 kit, a/s rear harness

---

Anyways..not sure what any of that means...

Well not really...

If the problem IS from your intake, and the problem occured while you had the intake installed, then it won't matter to the dealer that you put it back to stock b/c they can still blame everything on the intake during the time it was in there (especially since they know you have it). I'm not saying don't put the stock intake back in, I'm just saying don't do it just to get "back on" the warranty.

What's a CVS?

Anyone??

Well, the guy i dealth with seemed pretty easy going about mod's. He said, we might be able to work something out if i took out my injen and use a comptech, becuase he had no problems with comptech. Ill have to call him up next week, and see what i can do.

And i dont see how it could be from installation... surely the problem would have come up before 2000 miles.? I put it in with 700 miles in the car, it came on at 2800.

and he said he coudlent prove it was from the intake..so i dont know.

So today at work..i decided to call up rallye to talk about my engine light re-appearing. I asked for the same consultant, and told him the light is back on. He rememeberd me, and he said he knew what the issue was, and they would have to overnight a part. Basically, i need to drop my car off for 2 days. He said, a valve was closed, as you guys could tell from the other post i made. Im going to get more details, when i schedule the appointment, i didnt yet becuase of school/work hours. He said, it had nothing to do with the engine, and it will be fully covered under warranty. Guess it wasent the intake after all?

CVS = Canister Vent Shut Value

Attached to the Evaporative Emission (EVAP) Canister. Should have nothing to do with any intake.

Sadly, the more sophisticated the required emissions stuff becomes, the more common these problems are. I've had them on multiple cars. On the Audis I've had it always seems to be oxygen sensors...

ok finally the engine light is off, hopefully for good.

They overnighted that part...Cvs valve..fixed that, changed my oil ..free 1st oil change.. (was at 3100 miles)...fixed my rear view mirror rattle, and washed the car.

Now im happy! After driving my 96 beaten up maxima around, and going back to the acura, boy do i apprecaite my car even more!!
