loud snap when using sunroof
loud snap when using sunroof
anyone else get electrical snaps or pops when using their sunroof ? i have an 06, and the dealer showed me a parts diagram that shows all the electrical things (motors) for the sunroof to be back by the rear window, not up front. the sound is very clearly coming from the sides of the sunroof guides. somedays its fine, and others its awful. they lubricated the tracks, and it made it worse, so at first i thought it was the grease separating and cracking/popping when pulled apart.
anyone else have a solution ?

After reading the topic I immediately thought it would be the grease popping. And them lubing it up more and causing it to be worse basically confirms that for me.
If I were you, I'd get a few shop towels and clean the excess grease off of the tracks and sliders, etc... and then once it's cleaned nicely, try opening the sunroof a few times to see if the popping comes back. If it doesn't, then the grease was your problem. If it does, then either you missed some grease, or the grease wasn't the problem.
FYI, I have MINIMAL grease on my sunroof tracks, and I also use a silicone spray (Jig-A-Loo) on the tracks and I wipe some onto the rubber pieces to condition it, about once every two months, and definately before winter.

i did clean the grease, and the sounds stopped happening for a couple weeks. now they are back around 1 out of 5 times i use it.
i was just hoping someone else had it, and found the solution from a dealer or something. everytime i bring my car in, they cant reproduce the reported problem, and i waste my time.

Sounds like it's definately the problem (the grease) and that you have probably one small blob leftover that's still popping every so often.
