Lost power (or my imagination)
Lost power (or my imagination)
Hello everybody!
My TSX has about 2k miles now. In the past few weeks my perception is that it is not nearly as powerful as when it had 100 miles. So is it that I am just used to it now (compared to my old Civic) or could there be something wrong this quickly that would have that kind of symptom.
Thanks for your input.

Your car should be getting more powerful as you put miles on it and the engine loosens up.
What I am wondering is how you could think its more powerful at 100 miles, when that is breakin period and you should not be pushing the car at all at that time.
So maybe you pushed your car too hard, too early and prevented the pistons rings from seating in an optimal way, or perhaps you caused some other damage...
or maybe you just put in a tank of regualr gas instead of 91 octane?

MMM, I hope not. I think I took pretty good care of it. I never pushed it (except one time I accidentally had to gun it to avoid an accident) that hard. When I talk about power, I just mean trying to merge and get ahead of traffic rather than have to slow down. I guess what I am saying is that I have never floored it and I dont race or anything like that. It just seems to have lost the punch that it had under normal driving conditions.
BTW, I always use the highest octane gas.

Hey fellow Marylander. Thats an idea, I did check it about a month ago and it was ok. Do you get gas every two days? Just a hunch. My girlfriend would kill me if I was that obsessed to check every two days! She thinks I am already for posting to the forum
Hi Jonathan! I have noticed that on certain days, the car seems sluggish. Then on other days, it seems to be so fast. It's weird! LOL Sometimes I thought it was ambient temperature related but then I noticed that on some very cold days, it was very speedy. I really don't know why... weird...

The car feels faster on cold days because the cold air is more dense, therefore more of it is sucked into the engine, and more air=more fuel which means more power (although not much). I actually notice a considerable difference between hot summer days and the coldest winter days.

Power losses and surges?
I, too, could swear that my car has some better days than others (mostly better days), in terms of power. At one point last week, the question actually popped into my mind as to whether my TSX was running on all 4 cylinders. It kinda felt like when you lose a noticable amount of power when running the A/C.
But I was not running the A/C during any of this time.
I use the same gas station every time, always 91 octane.
I check my tire pressure pretty regularly.
I'm here in SoCal, where the temp doesn't vary too much (generally between 55 and 65 degrees when I'm out and about).
I've had my car for almost 9 months now, and did a proper break-in etc.
For the record, I'm not complaining, nor am I worried about this, but it is strange, especially now that others are noticing the same thing.
