Looking at buying a second TSX (first gen).....transmission issues?
Looking at buying a second TSX (first gen).....transmission issues?
I wanted to see if the first generation TSX's had automatic trans failures like a lot of the V6 hondas of the same-ish time frame. I have a 99 accord with a V6, mine has never had transmission issues but others have had pretty bad experiences. I remember those transmissions being problematic in the TL's too.....I just don't know what year they started becoming reliable again, or if the 4 cylinder cars had the same trans. I know that there was some pretty ROUGH backlash at Honda with them extending powertrain/trans warranties for people after having to fix cars with pretty low miles on them.
Do the first gen TSX's have known automatic transmission issues? There seemed to be some issues with some of the stick shift cars........but what about the auto cars?
Why I ask:
I also have a Second gen TSX for my wife and I, but I need to get my 60 year old mother something reliable and comfortable. Her car just got totaled out of an accident where some guy blew a stop sign a few days ago. They are giving her almost $10K for the car (it was paid off), so I am looking at TSX's in the 10-20K range. She likes my second gen, and has really never had a NICE car......LOL....always buckets of crap to keep a roof over our head and food in our mouths. I wanted to get her something that was nice and reliable to say thank you.....corny.....I KNOW.....but the woman is 60 and has given up a lot for me over the years. I am in the military and deploy a lot so I don't want to have to worry about her. If a low mile one that had been taken care of would be a good choice......lets hear some facts and opinions.....

Not a moderator, but frequent reader/poster on this forum.
I've not seen many posts of trans problems w/ TSX's of any model. This is likely same trans used by Accord 4-cyls. and I am a moderator on an Accord website. The 03-07 Accords have very few trans issues in my experience.
good luck

As far as I know, they're solid!
She will love a TSX! Get her one!
(Preferably a 06+ to avoid the dead PCB which kills the Radio lights, plus you get alot more standard stuff 06+ vs 04 and 05's)
