Loaner Car
Loaner Car
When I turned my car into service at Acura, they said it would take two weeks. Three weeks later they are saying it'll take another week. And I don't know if it's part of their service, but they said that if the fix is not warranty, then they won't issue me a loaner car. On top of that my friends and I are skeptical of the problem being a rodent in my car. Acura said that a rodent went into my engine and chewed on the wires, so they have to replace the whole harness (est. $1000+ job). I don't know and have never heard of anyone with a problem like that, ever. Should I ask them to see the harness? would they lie to me about this to avoid a lemon law, or some bogus sale they made to me?
Hmm...not in Plano,TX.
Well, first off, you're right! I've never heard of a rodent chewing up wires in a car. Haha...yes, I think you should ask to look at it. Also, they should give you a loaner car regardless. Something sounds funny about that.
I go to David McDavid in Plano,TX and they are 110% about the customer being satifisfied and happy about everything they service you for. If you want a number of someone that maybe able to give you better advice from David Mc David Acura, I will be happy to give it to you. They can tell you if they have ever heard of anything like that and what route to go. Trust me...you know how car dealers are a bit sneaky..none of that here. It's genuine.

In fact, rodent damage to a car is not that uncommon. I see it from time to time. For some reason, they love to snuggle up to a warm engine and chew away on the wire harnesses and hoses. Being that it's not a defect, you'll be hard pressed to find a dealer that will cover it under warranty. It's damage, just like an accident, so you might try contacting your insurance to see if they'll cover it under comprehensive coverage.
By all means ask to see the damaged harnesses, but make sure you ask them up front to save them because I can tell you from experience that old parts quickly go into the trash. There's no place to save every part we replace on customer's cars. I only save the parts that customers ask to see. Often, someone will come in two-weeks later wanting to see what was replaced on their car, and it's long since at the dump.

Someone reported this same situation a few weeks ago here.
Basically, what he said was that it was not under warranty, but theinsurance cofered it under road hazards.

I think it depends on the dealers policy as far as loaner cars. My other car was repaired (99 CL) for non-warranty issues and I always got a loeaner car. I just had to call in advance and make an appointed for one. What I was told was that each service manager has his/her own fleet of loaner cars to issue as needed. Thats actually why i setteled on buying a TSX because when they were working on my CL I got a TSX loaner car for the weekend and loved it. But again, I think its dependent on dealer. Rodents getting into cars is fairly commen here as well, though not snakes (no snakes here in Hawaii, yet...). Anyway, good luck.
