It rained here on friday and while i was out, I pulled out into traffic and the VSA light came on and a real fast knocking sound started from the left or center of engine compartment. Almost sounds like when ana axle knock/click.

It went away after i got traction. That noise normal?

 

The VSA can use the ABS to selectively brake individual wheels when it senses that you're breaking traction. It's normal.

 

I experienced a similar knocking noise when the VSA light came on; it happened when I got hung up in some snow. Hasn't happened since (that was about 6 months ago), and I assumed it had something to do with the ABS system.

 

Sounds like the ABS kicking in.
