Keyless remote wont lock/arm alarm... only unlock

Just out of nowhere, my remote key won't lock my car. It will unlock the trunk and all the doors, but won't lock any of my doors. I now have to do it by sticking my key in the door or pressing from the inside (which is annoying).

When I press the remote to lock, i see the little red light on the remote flash, but the car doesn't respond (the tailights and parking lights dont come on when I press the lock button... only when I press the unlock buttons).

Any ideas? I think I have to go to the dealer (which sucks since the nearest is like 30 miles away)

I searched about door actuators, but I dont think this is the problem.

Try looking up the programming instructions from the Accord key mod thread. May just need to reprogram it and it will work. No idea why it would've lost the code though.

I found this post that you put in a key fob thread:

"Follow precisely:

Transmitter Programming

Storing transmitter codes:
The codes of up to three transmitters can be stored into the keyless receiver unit memory. (If a fourth code is stored, the code which was input first will be erased.)

NOTE: It is important to maintain the time limits between the steps. Make sure the doors, the hood and the tailgate are closed.

1. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
2. Within 1 to 4 sec, press the transmitter lock or unlock button with the transmitter aimed at the keyless receiver in the power window master switch. (located by the driver’s window switches)
3. Within 1 to 4 sec, turn the ignition switch OFF.
4. Within 1 to 4 sec, turn the ignition switch ON (II).
5. Within 1 to 4 sec, press the transmitter lock or unlock button with the transmitter aimed at the keyless receiver in the power window master switch. (located by the driver’s window switches)
6. Within 1 to 4 sec, turn the ignition switch OFF.
7. Within 1 to 4 sec, turn the ignition switch ON (II).
8. Within 1 to 4 sec, press the transmitter lock or unlock button with the transmitter aimed at the keyless receiver in the power window master switch. (located by the driver’s window switches)
9. Within 1 to 4 sec, turn the ignition switch OFF.
10. Within 1 to 4 sec, turn the ignition switch ON (II).
11. Within 1 to 4 sec, press the transmitter lock or unlock button with the transmitter aimed at the keyless receiver in the power window master switch. (located by the driver’s window switches)
12. Confirm you can hear the sound of the door lock actuators within 1 to 4 sec, then push transmitter lock or unlock button again, or the code will not be stored.
13. Within 10 sec, aim the transmitters (up to two additional ones) whose codes you want to store in the keyless receiver, and press the transmitter lock or unlock buttons.
Confirm that you can hear the sound of the door lock actuators after each transmitter code is stored.
14. Turn the ignition switch off, and remove the key.
15. Confirm proper operation with the transmitters."

Should I do this procedure?^^^

I'm having the same exact problem. Happened today. I can unlock, open the trunk, but cannot lock the car. The red light flashes when I press the unlock/lock/trunk buttons, too. Replaced the battery just in case it might be related but it works fine.

Manually locking the car does work.

Any ideas anyone?

If your door actuator is out it would cause the same problem. Do you get get the beep confirmation when you manually lock all your doors and press the lock button on the remote twice?

The fuses are designed to prevent damage to other electronic components in the event of a short. I would highly recommend changing that fuse back to a 7.5 soon otherwise the next time a short happens it could be the harness that breaks and not the fuse.

Alarm system won't arm.

I had the exact same symtoms with my 2010 Honda Accord EX, after searching the internet for the answer and finding this question, I decided to call the Honda garage service department. The Specialist explained it was almost certainly one of the door acuators not working that was causing the problem with the alarm system not arming. He said to check the actuators by either locking all of the doors with the key or by sitting inside the car and using the door lock switch on the drivers side door to lock the doors. If, one of the doors did not lock then it would be that doors acuator that needed replaced, thereby, causing the problem.

As, it turns out before checking the actuators, I went around the car opening and closing each door to be sure they were closed tight, as it turns out the back passenger door was not closed completely, causing the alarm system not to operate properly. After, closeing the door firmly the problem was solved.

An easy, inexpensive fix. I hope this helps someone in the future.

Note: my car is not an Acura, but both cars are in the Honda "Family." Thanks.

because one of your door actuators or hood latch/trunk latch is defective.

Unlock function did not work

Hi,

I had the same problem with my key fob light showing the red light which meant battery was ok. Car would unlock but the confirmation (beep sound) wouldn't come on and car would not lock. I followed the instructions from previous post to check if all doors were locked. Turns out the trunk hatch was not locked properly. Closed the trunk and was able to lock the car with key fob. I did not have to reprogram my key fob. Saved some time and $!

Thanks for posting the solution.

Ditto on 2024 👍🏻 Just saved me $$$ and time ~ Thank You!! Why the car didn’t alert me that the back passenger door wasn’t completely shut disturbs me tho 👀

You might just need to change the battery in it.
