CEL turned on last year. Dealer pulled an O2 sensor code - but they weren't convinced for some reason (?). Then the light went off 2 days later (without battery disconnect). Over the past 11 months, the CEL has turned off and on randomly for weeks at a time.

I haven't gotten the O2 sensor replaced thinking it may be an electrical problem. I say this because:
a) Lights for centre dash buttons don't work sometimes (different problem than radio light - that was already fixed)
b) Steering wheel cruise-engage button doesn't work sometimes (~2% of time)

My question: Has anyone else's CEL turned off and on like that? Any other cars here with wire harness problems?

 

If the dealer pulled an O2 sensor code, why don't they replace it? What's the code they pulled?

Have you been getting poor gas mileage? Sputtering of the engine at times?

 

The car is out of warranty for an O2 sensor, so it's been my decision not to replace. I'm still not convinced that it's the sensor. There are too many signs that point elsewhere...

- gas mileage OK (29-31 mpg average - 50/50 city/hwy)
- CEL turns off and on
- driver seat heater stopped working this summer
- dash button lights sometimes don't work
- warning chime sounds distorted sometimes


Update: the CEL just came back on today after being off since Tuesday

 

What is the code number?

 

Sound like loose fuses to me.
