Intermittant AC squeal

Hi all - kinda new to this - joined in 2004 after buying my TSX, just too busy with deployments to really follow. Despite not being able to drive
too much, I have 44K in 30 months.

I have an intermittant squeal - more like a high pitch "whistle - only when the AC is running (does not matter auto or not). It's only really noticeable when you're at idle (e.g. stop light). It starts kinda high pitch, goes higher and stops - duration is maybe 2 seconds.

Anyone had this problem? Any ideas? Thanks for the assist!!

Check your belts to see if they're glazed or cracked.

also check the belt tensioner indicator for worn belt. A worn belt also creates a lot of black dust on the bottom side (ribs).

I have the same issue. Can never be duplicated at dealer. It is not a belt issue. The noise actually generates from within the vent ducts. It is a faint sucking/vibrating noise at idle or in park.

I never considered the belts as it sound seems to eminate from the console area. But, I shall check. The noise is not a faint sucking/vibrating noise at all, but ends up high pitched - like a belt or bearing squeal.

Thanks!!!

I have the exact same issue on my 06 that seemed to just start about a month ago. It sounds like a faint whistle coming from the middle console vent(s). It's quite hard to hear with the radio on or accelerating but every once in a while I can hear it well enough to pinpoint it. I need to head into the dealer for my 5k oil change / service and I'm going to ask about it. I'll keep you guys posted.

Sounds like it could be something obstructing the air flow in the plenum. Check to see is the dash vents are fully open. Also change the vent mode to floor or bi level, perhaps the door is not in the correct position and is creating a whistle.

Hi - for me the sound (like smite described) is coming from the console area. But, my setting is on bi-level (panel/floor). This seems to be getting much more common (again noticable at idle) and sometimes is quite loud (but I have no idea if it can be head from outside the car). I have an appointment with my mechanic in two weeks, and will have him check.

I have this whistling sound as well. What was the verdict on this one for you?

A low freon level is what has been causing the vacuum sound from the vent area. Acura techline suggests evacuating the freon adn then recharging to appropriate level.
