Ignition Key Problem

I could make a long story out of this, but I'll save you guys the ugly details. I got home late last night, set the brake, shifted into park, and guess what? The key would only turn back to position 1, and wouldn't go only further. There were enough things still powered to leave little doubt that the battery would be dead in the morning, so again, long story short, I disconnected the battery and went to bed (this was the 05 by the way). I had plans for today that wouldn't allow me to visit the dealer, and since it's Friday, that would push it into next week, blah, blah, blah. This morning it did occur to me that if I was really lucky, disconnecting the battery for awhile would reset something, and I'd be good to go. Well, that's what happened. I reconnected the battery, made a short trip, went to turn the car off, and bingo.... key worked fine (and still does, but we'll see if it lasts). So.... I suspected the key, or more likely the ignition switch had gone bad, but the old reset trick did it.
