Howling noise from engine 06 5AT w/ only 38k miles...

hey guys.

I just bought my 06 tsx 5AT w/ only 38k miles about 3 weeks ago and i'm already running into a few issues with the car.

issue #1:

as soon as i start the engine, this howling metal on metal sound comes on and becomes more noticeable once i start to drive. on a quiet street, the sound can be heard inside the cabin and drives me absolutely insane, especially at night when there aren't many cars on the road. i've uploaded 2 videos i took today onto photobucket:

(howling sound most noticeable around 12 seconds in)

&

(howling sound most noticeable around 10-12 seconds in)

now, i have a CPO warranty but i'm not sure if this kind of problem will be covered or not. i've already taken a trip to the dealership for rattling/howling noises i can hear from the cabin and of course they would say its normal. i can't accept this and i'm very frustrated given that i've only owned it for about 3 weeks, but i also want the dealership to fix these issues with care so i'd like to approach this as calmly as possible.

issue #2:

if i rev the engine to 3k rpm and let off quickly, the engine also makes a loud ticking sound upon engine deceleration. this also does not seem normal. it sounds like somethings about to break. my old 89 accord from 11 years ago didn't even make this much noise with over 100k miles on it.

i'll post a video of issue#2 later on, but i just wanted to see if anyone else has had similar issues and what was done to fix it or even what the problem was. is it something to do with the timing chain? tensioner? valve adjustment? bent valves?

i'm in the process of setting up more appointments and hopefully getting a nice loaner car in the mean time. if anyone is interested i'll keep this thread updated with anything that comes up.

Can you tell where the noise coming from on issue #1? A piece of hose can be used as a poor man's stethoscope. Be careful not to get it caught in the belt.

The noise is coming from the passenger side of the engine to the right of where the timing chain assembly is, as far as I can tell. I've been told by an independent mechanic that my power steering is most likely the culprit since the noise sorta amplifies when I turn the steering wheel slightly to the left or right.

I have the car at the dealership as we speak getting a few additional things fixed/replaced, hopefully under CPO warranty, but I don't even want to begin to get into that.

I'm new to the TSX but have experience on 2.2L and 2.4L on 07 Accord.

Your valves are making a lot of noise (at least seems so on video). I would be concerned about possible lack of lubrication. Open oil fill and see if you can see oil covering the valve train. If you can't see generous amount of oil, suggest pulling valve cover and inspecting the valve train to see if lubrication is getting to valves. If yes, then valves may need adjustment to reduce noise. If no, the you may need to have cylinder head pulled and repaired to get oil flowing.

I could not hear a howling noise on the video, so can't help too much there. Power Steering (PS) can occasionally make high pitched sounds if air is getting into the PS system through a loose connection on the suction side of system.

good luck

I just word from the dealership that they'll be replacing the power steering pump/motor as well as a barrage of other items all over the car.

I'll keep this thread updated on the process.
