hot air

Hi,

This is my first post. Please forgive me if I did anything wrong.

We purchased a new TSX on Labor day and have been pretty happy with it. Since it's in the break in stage, we baby it as much as we can. As a consequence, I don't turn on A/C during my early morning drive. Compared with our 99 Camry V6 (going through the same babying process), our TSX has been unusually hot in the first ten mile morning ride with only fresh air circulation. Since this is the first time we buy a car from Honda/Acura, I just want to make sure that it is normal. Is it?

Thank you!

Welcome to the forum. Congrats on your TSX.

My A/C has been on since the very first day i purchased my car. Due to the vehicle's amazingly low drag coefficent, the A/C does not affect the vehicle's gas mileage as much. People on this forum have even said that you get better gas mileage with the A/C on than with the windows down...

Anyways to answer your question, the TSX warms up very quickly. Just watch the temperature gauge on the TSX and watch the temperature gauges on other cars. The TSX warms up very quick due to the position of the catalytic converters. As for the hot air coming out of the vents, check to see what temperature you've selected. Use the A/C for a little while and feel the vents for hot air. If your A/C is on and the vents are still blowing out hot air, you should talk to the dealer.

But I for one have not felt this hot air that you are talking about, maybe i'll drive the first 10 minutes without A/C tommorow..

from some studies; driving with open windows a/c off uses 10%-12% more gas on high way; close window driving with a/c on highway uses 3% more gas.. so take your pick!!
back to the question, i believe the air draw in usually heat up a litttle bit, but not too much. of course, if you driving in the morning and sun will heat up your interior, you will feel wind from vent but maybe "warm" feeling because all the mositre.... hope this helps.. but i heard there is a guy who's air on accord is always hot because some defect on duct. take it to dealer if you don't feel comfortable, or use a thermometer to check the air temp in front of vent....... hope this helps!!

If you don't turn on the A/C, but want the coolest possible air, make sure the temperature setting is below 60°F and that the recirc is OFF. Set the fan speed to whatever you want. This should ensure that the air intake valve is set to route air from the outside directly into the cabin, without passing it through the heater core. If the temp setting is near the middle, the outside air could be partially routed through the heater core, making it warmer than you desire.

But... during the break-in process, I don't think that using the AC would have any negative effects on the engine. You may be 'over-babying' the car. (Some may even argue that it's better during break-in, since the AC compressor cycles on/off while in use, increasing and decreasing load on the engine as you drive.)

Question Hot air coming from vents and its 34 degrees outside?

Left for work early, it 34 degrees outside, the climate control is off.
Hot air blowing…I turn on e the climate control AC off , and adjusted temperature down to 65.
Still blowing hot air…ok stop the car and turn it off , and back on (kind of like a reboot for a PC)
Still blowing hot air, ok ..now I turn on the AC, force cool air through the vents, turn it off.
Now we have cool air coming out…but I did notice the passenger side was blowing a bit cooler than the driver side, dual was not on.

Anyone else seen problems with the climate control unit?

i'm almost inclined to think this might be a honda thing. I have also noticed that the fresh air coming through the vents tend to be a bit warmer compared to when I had my Passat; and this is with the climate set at Lo.

First noticed it when I was riding in a friend's 94 civic, and also on my sister's 2002 civic. The air coming through the vents seem to be noticeably warmer than the outside air.

Too lazy to rtfm, but anyone know where the fresh air intakes are on the car, and if it's real close to the engine block?
