Help! Front end clunking when braking...
Yeah, just started happening all of a sudden, don't think I hit any potholes, since I'm pretty religious about NOT hitting them, but when I hit the brake pedal, there's an audible clunk, then if you hold down the pedal to slow down the car more, it has a more quieter intermittent clunking noise, but I don't think its the ABS, because its not a rapid clunking.
It seems to be more on the driver side. I took a look, but I can't seem to see anything wrong with it, I tried searching here on the forums, but didn't find what I was looking for.
Has anyone ever had this? What was the cause? This is on an '04 5AT with about ... 79300 km.
I think I'll have to take it in, but would it be safe to drive still? I need to go out tonight...

Sounds like something I had a year ago, at about 40,000km...a clunking noise coming from the front end when I braked. I took the car in and the dealer said the brakes needed to be serviced (lubed). I'm now at 58,000km (06 6MT) and still on the original pads and rotors, although they were just recently serviced again.

still plays with cars
lubing brakes - now there's a novel concept. Yikes !!!
Sounds like the OP has a rock wedged in there somewhere, especially if the noise just started all at once. Else gradually getting noisier might be mechanical wear on the pad mounts.
