I told him they were stock lights and finally at the end he says maybe their too high? have you guys had this problem, also the cop was extremely rude, but he did not give a ticket, he just made no sense saying get your lights fixed...

Yup, there may be nothing wrong. It is not an unknown questioning strategy for a police officer to acuse an individual of doing something wrong - even if it's not wrong to be doing what you are acused of doing - just to see how you react. Calm down, be nice enough, and if appropriate deny it and just tell them that they are mistaken. In this case, it's not like he's measured the dispersal pattern of the headlights, or checked to see if you've got a couple of bodies in the trunk, thereby upsetting the car's normal driving attitude, and sending the lightbeams skyward.

Chances are that "officer" really is just in the wrong job; he should have stayed in university, too.

Was it a Real Cop ?

University Cop Huh ? Do they get to carry guns ? Blow away perps stealing pens from the campus bookstore and collar drunks leaving the campus pub ?

Sounds like he has a pole up his ass cause his job/life sucks. I'd tell him I was calling the "real" cops to file a complaint for harrasment.

I'm sure the board of regents has a set out a detailed policy on vertical alignment of headlights.

Maybe the playcop should write a nice letter in Japanese about his concerns and fax it to Mr. Fukui at Honda Motor Coropration too. Tell him it's pronounced FUK-YOU-EH.

are you on campus grounds when he stopped you?
if so, he would have 'jurisdiction' rights. They are hired by the school to protect the school's property and also students.

For example, if the school has a no-alcohol policy, then he would have every right to arrest you if he sees you walking on campus with a open container.

when i went to college a few years back, i worked a bit as a 'student security' to check residence halls. We worked along these full-time officers and these guys are actually licensed by the state police and have the right to carry guns, arrest people and basically are real cops who are sanctioned by the state to work in the school grounds.

Yes I am Aware of that, they are real cops, but I heard their payroll keeps them well over 100k a year, so pretty much they do what ever they want.

I called in the office and talked to another officer he was rude, and said he did not want to argue about traffic violation and laws?

Am I breaking a law with bright headlights that are stock...?
Or any other violations?
He mentioned them being aimed too high it was due to a hill when he was in front of me and my lights caught him at a bad angle.

He doesn't want to talk about the rules he enforces ? Ask to speak his supervisor and if you don't get an immediate apology (preferably written) the head of campus security & keep going up the chain of command till you get satisfaction.

Anyone, including a univeristy is allowed to hire people to protect person & property. It doesn't (nor should it) give them the full rights and privileges of cops. The use of force created serious legal obligations.

If they're being paid so well they should have all that much more incentive to do their jobs properly.

Maybe the university should be making some cuts before one of these overpaid undertrained power-trip rent-an-pigs gets them in a big legal can of worms.
