Grinding noise while putting in Reverse ***Need Help**
Hi All,
I just bought a 2005 TSX 6-speed. Sometimes (specially when the car had been in a forward motion) when I put into the reverse gear, I get a grinding noise which sounds like a miss-shit or when you put the car in reverse when its moving forward.
fyi, I'm completely stopped putting putting into reverse. All my other gears work perfectly.
Any thoughts or suggestions?
Thanks

try putting the transmission into 1st gear then shift into reverse.
I don't get grinding from putting mine into reverse, but sometimes it can be difficult unless I shift in to 1st first.
I've had this happen on almost every manual that I have driven. from what I've heard there's some sort of gate that is meant to help prevent you from shifting into reverse while going forward. I've always stopped the car, shift into first and then directly into reverse with no problems.
if that doesn't help, try shifting slower into reverse or make sure that you're completely stopped with your foot on the brake pedal so that the car is not rolling at all.

Are you saying that you are putting the transmission into reverse when the car is just slightly moving forward? You don't want to do that, there is no syncros on the reverse gear. It sounds like grinding gears, because that is what is happening.
As was noted above, if you have an issue where you are stopped with the clutch out, try putting the transmission into first gear before before reverse, this will stop the input shaft from moving.
If you still are having trouble and you are following the above procedure, it could be your clutch is dragging and you would need to look into that further.

but when the car has been parked for few minutes and then I put into reverse - no grinding.

I'm so confused.

Could it be the clutch pedal needs adjustment?
or the master cylinder needs to be replaced?
thanks
I've tried both procedures you mentioned but I still get little bit of grinding while shifting into reverse.

It helps to change out your MTF. Also, when at a stand still, shift into 3rd then into reverse. It IS a louder shift, so you will hear it engage solidly. BUT it should not scratch (don't let your car roll at all). YOu can even make a habit of waiting a second or two before going into reverse after you've been going forward instead of just jamming it into reverse.
