Gas Mileage disparity while breaking in engine, a problem??

Just got my new TSX about 2 weeks ago. I've been taking it really easy on the engine, keeping it under 4k RPM's.

Should I be worried about my gas mileage being low? I got about 340 miles out of my first tank, and it looks like I'll get about 360 out of my second. That's somewhere between 20 and 23 mpg.

Anything to worry about? I'm taking the car in next week hopefully to get a buzzing speaker fixed, and I'd like to know if I should mention it.

(on a side note, this car is freakin' awesome)

Do you work in or around DC? If so, I have your answer.

15 minutes of Highway driving every morning, maybe a mile or two or non-highway...

Break-in period will always see lower gas mileage for this car. Most people saw a gas mileage increase after 1000 miles so I wouldn't worry about it.

Do you have Navi? The history button in the Advanced Trip computer also tells you how long the engine was running and your average speed. I get about 20mpg due to mostly city driving with an average speed of 24mph on my last tank and I think it was for like 8 to 10 hours.

Edit: I did get 30mpg when doing all highway. (road trip to Atlantic City)

Run a search under "mileage" and pretty much everyone has witnessed the same as you.

For post-1000 miles mileage, it will greatly depend on the driver's style.

Yes, you will se lower mpg due to the following:

1. The 15-20 minute drive does not allow the engine to warm up fully so it is running a bit rich.

2. The engine is still breaking in. I am getting about the same after 4900 miles.

3. You will see a lower mpg if you fill-up when tank is half-full vs when it is nearly empty. I have noticed about 2mpg drop. To get a more reliable reading top up when empty. I think it may be due to the extra weight of the gas.

4. Stop and go traffic will eat into mpg. I think I saw somewhere DC has the second worst traffic in the country.
