C'mon now.. I spent most of my winter with the CEL on. Get it checked, it'll be covered by warranty.

And no, it's not the end of the world..

Moving to Problems and Fixes.

Could it be that you put your gas cap back on loose? I guess that the CEL will come on if you don't click it 3 or 4 times....just a thought.

oh boy.. I hope it isn't anything bad. I'm not looking forward to any CEL problems on my TSX. Is it really cold where you are? I read someone here had problems with their O2 sensor.

90% of the time, it's either gas cap not well closed (which you'll have to pay 50$ to get your neglect erased), or an O2 sensor gone bad.

I'm the one who's had O2's go during cold weather. It might be just my car though, with it's oiloholic problems.

$50? Damn, if you just want to read and clear codes, then you can do it yourself for $40. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...category=43989

Always check your gascap first. The check "engine" light is a very bad name for it.

the car's been out for 2 years now, I wouldn't expect a *new* problems to pop up. And the person you're referring to is sauceman who has more miles than all of us combined

That's not the one I have. It's just the least expensive and performs very limited functions. It only gives you the code and the ability to clear.

There are two that I've used and would recommend...

1. The one from EASE has a lot of features (PC or PDA version) including datalogging. I've used the PC version with my laptop. The PDA version is more portable. I've heard the Palm version is faster in acquiring data. http://www.obd2.com

2. The one from OBDMeter is a PDA based and less expensive. http://www.obdmeter.com/orobmet.html . I current have the IPAQ version. It provides readouts of all supported sensors, generic OBD2 error codes with interpretations. My favorite feature is the 0-60 time (not available with the EASE unit)!

The OBDmeter only display one sensor at a time, whereas the EASE provides multiple sensor readouts on the same screen.

That's a relative bargain. Honda charged us $80 to read the error code on our 99 Civic. I need to invest in a code reader.

Happens.

It appears Honda O2 sensors are not the most durable/reliable.

Sorry but I disagree, there are thousands of TSXs out there and who knows how many other Honda product that use the same part? We don't have them dropping like flys do we? I'm amazed they last as long as they do. One end in the hot, corrosive exhaust path, the other exposed to air, water, salt, snow (well not in Hawaii), with a little wire sticking out just waiting to be snagged. Qute frankly between our 94, 97, and 99 GS-Rs and our 4 S2000s, we've never replaced an O2 sensor. I did replace one on my MR-2 Turbo when it was 4 years old (emissons warranty was 5 years) but I'm not condeming all Toyotas.

Unhappy

I had the same problem last winter. Check engine light came on and dealer had to replace the oxygen sensor.

About a month ago the same thing happened. Check engine light came on. I am going to the dealer on monday to have it checked again. This is not good if the sensor went again. Don't want this to be a yearly routine when warranty runs out.

Also, I read or heard from the dealer that the light will go out on its own after a while if the gas cap is causing the problem and is fixed. It would suck if you had to pay $50 to get the computer reset every time you don't tighten the cap enough!

Last year I had to wait for a ew weeks before I could get a secondary O2 sensor replacement, because they were out o stock both in our local Acura and Honda dealers, but also at Honda Canada. They were indeed dropping like flies.

I'm tempted to try NGK's next time to see if they're more durable. Although, NGK may well be Honda's supplier. Or is it Denso?

Its freaken crazy when u think of it, new cars, should be advanced and yet an o2 sensor that is defective.......the change is tomorrow...it better not happen again........or else
I noticed a decrease in engine response since that engine light came on, i think its more the just an o2 sensor, i think my exhaust line has a some sort of freaken leak, when i floored it before it kicked pretty well, now when i floor it the speedometer increases but at a slower rate.........someone told me that ehen engine light goes on, the v-tech shuts off is it true??????Can that explain the loss of power???

I believe the ECU is now in limp mode. Once the sensor is replaced and stored code reset, you should be fine again.

Yes. Engine runs like shit when one of your O2 sensors is down.

I periodically ran on three cylinders when the primary sensor was bad; probably as a result of either too rich or too lean, probably on cylinder #1. My guess was waaaay waay too lean, because the car had no acceleration whatsoever, and in any gear.

How Many miles do you have?? The CEL comes blinks around 9thousand miles and stays on once you hit 10thousand. It scared me when it happened.

That's the maintenance required light not the check engine light.
