Wanted to add my '04 TSX auto with 36K km had the drivers side actuator go about a week ago, and I found this thread today.

Question from anyone in Canada - is this covered under the 3/4 year comprehensive or the 5 year 100K manufacturers warranty?

Since my '04 doesn't have the comprehensive bumper to bumper left, does anyone have a link to a service bulleting that may make my dealer more likely to cover this repair?

The drivers door lock actuator went out in my '04 in August of '06. Completely covered under warranty. I'm waiting for the others to fail. lol

I'd take a door lock actuator failure over an A/C failure (which I had a month ago) any day!

My driver side door lock actuator went out about a month ago on my '04 @ 45,000 miles or so.

I'm a little afraid to take this in to the dealer, as I've completely covered the inside of the door panel with sound dampening (raamat). You can still get to the access holes and screws, you'd just need to feel for them and cut around them. Does anyone know if this voids the warranty since it's more work than normal to get to the part?

Mine just went out today: Driver's door -- every 4th or 5th time it'll go up half-way or not at all .. looks like it's the actuator. I just ordered from oemacura...com for $30.00 shipped.

Same here, thinking about trying it myself. I heard it's a real b!tch though since you're doing everything by feel.

I wish I woulda set my keyless settings to open doorlock only on first button push... I've had it so that all 4 locks open with the first keyfob button push ... i'm the primary driver and RARELY have people in my car... i would have been able to preserve the life of the other three actuators... oh well

will give do a write-up and give pics after I do mine next week.

thanks for the help guys

My 05 TSX driver side door actuator was replaced under warranty aroung 45K.

the passenger side door went out at 62K. I was pissed. I went to the dealer and complained that acura is putting defective parts in since both doors went bad back to back.

I asked them if they can still do it free for me since I do a lot of maintainence with them. The guy said he had to call the district manager on monday and ask if acura will cover the part.

He finally got the approval from district manager and told me to come in. The part will be free and I have to pay $100 for the labor. I was thinking It wasn't a bad deal so i took it.

I went to the dealer and drop my car off. At the end they decided not to charge me for the labor too. I am one happy mofo.

They will get my business again.

Covered under the 3 year warranty; mine was out by weeks and Acura didn't repair it under warranty!

Hi all,

i tried replacing the front door actuator (driver side) with no luck..

I couldn't take out two of the three screws that hold the Actuator Assembly to the Door.It was really frustrating to get so close and couldn't get thru because of these screws..I tried the Screws Driver ,Impact Driver and Dewalt power drill and none didn't work..The more i try it seems the screws are getting stripped and i stopped ruining them..

Now i guess if some one pls suggest how can i get rid of these screws i can replace them with new set of the screws ( there is no point in trying not to ruin them..). My biggest problem is how to remove these screws..

Another problem i had is i couldn't detach the door panel from the door as one of the connector switch (power window switch connector , the bigger one) the bottom one in the image below:

http://memimage.cardomain.com/member...38_23_full.jpg

Does the white socket completely comes out when you pop out or a portion of it sticks with the black control panel ??

I am going to give a shot tomorrow..If i can't i have no other option but to take it to the dealer..

Really Appreciate your inputs..

Thanks a lot guys..

I am able to install the actuator..

It took close to 2 hours ..I was able to remove the partially stripped screws (using the right philips bit and an angular screw driver..)

The service manual won't talk abt how to take out the actuator !! It only talks abt how to test it..

Thanks for all the help and suggestions..

Passenger doorlock actuator was bad on our 2004 TSX. Thanks to the instructions from BW61885 found on page 2 of this thread, I was able to change out the actuator in about an hour! Thanks BW61885!

BTW I ordered the part through www.acurapartspeople.com. Cost about $19.

Add another one. Just bought an 05 TSX black 6MT 77K miles... and doors don't lock with the transmitter, but trunk opens fine.

Going to call the local stealership tomorrow...

Okay, check this out - actually had a good experience with a stealership at Acura of Concord (CA). It turns out that three of the doorlock actuators are dead or nearly dead on my TSX and they will replace them all under the extended Acura warranty that I purchased with the car. I have to say, their customer service was top-notch - even better than the Mercedes dealers that I dealt with for the E350 the TSX just replaced.

And another one....My front driver door on an '04 w/ 42K MT just went out this evening. I originally thought it was the rain and something was shorting out in the door but after reading this thread I think its the actuator as all the other doors and trunk unlock... Funny thing though, since the driver door does not lock or unlock, the cabin light stays on(and then fades out).

Hopefully, the extended warranty I bought from the dealer works out.. I'll post an update on this when its fixed.

Add me to the list. 2004 TSX Auto with 70k miles on it. Drivers side lock has stopped working.

I have looked through most of the thread and found the link to the facebook DIY, but cannot open. Does anyone has a working link for the DIY? What is the specific Philips Head screw driver needed for the PIA 3 screws people have had problems with?

Mine went out 2 months ago. I didn't have time to fix it but it magically started working again. We'll see for how long.

janob05: BTW, Front Driver side actuator is Honda Part # 72155-SDA-A01. Other doors may be different... Actual sticker and part # is shown on photo 41 of 56 in my link above.

What pisses me off more about this problem then the actual door lock problem itself was having stuff stolen out of my car. It just so happens then when the actuator finally went out my drivers side lock never locked so my car sat there with an unlocked door. Nothing more violating then some fucker going through your car taking anything thats of value. Now I have this thing where even after hitting the lock button and hearing the beep, I have to see with my own eyes the door in the locked position.

Same problem...

I have an 05 TSX, 6 spd w/Navi. I had the same problem with the driver's door when the car was still under warranty, and the dealership fixed the problem. I am now having the same issue with the passenger side, and the car is out of warranty. Sigh... It would seem that if this is a recurring problem with the model, there would be a recall...

06 TSX Auto no Nav

I agree they need a recall! I had my actuators go bad twice this week! Honda will get a not too friendly call from me. They better accomidate, for their sake.

The doors wouldn't open with the key fob, and the key wouldn't even open the door. Oddly, the trunk opened. I crawled through the trunk, so I wouldn't have to wait for a tow to get it to the dealership. When I turned on the ignition, all of the doors except the driver side door unlocked. Honda better hope they can somehow make me happy that they caused me so much trouble to try to save a dollar, or whatever, by using this POS part.

Good luck with that. I don't know what you're expecting given that they're still using the same part. I do think it's funny that you seem to believe you have any leverage here. If you really want to get anything out of them, I'd suggest not going in guns blazing or they're just going to think you're a dickhead and have very little desire to help you out.

A perspective customer always has some leverage. We saw what happens to manufacturers who take the "deal with it stance," like Ford. And even Ford lets you into the car. Granted, the reason I will never buy a Ford again is much more severe.

I wasn't planning on going in guns blazing. I will give them a chance to make right a design they obviously messed up. How they respond, thus how I do, is up to them.

TSX locks

I am looking at buying my second 04' Acura TSX. My original was totaled a month ago. The one im looking at now is at the local honda dealership. I talked them down on price quite a bit but they wont fix the locks. I'm glad to find its not a wiring problem that could spread. Is it possible to have a body shop or firestone or someone of the like fix it.$100 an hour is a bit much for me. i'm pushing it as it is with buying the car.
Thanks
