So as I was going through the how-to, I decided to call my three local Acura dealers for installation quotes just to see if I would be wasting my time *trying* to do this myself. $96 (total cost considering that I already have the part) at Woodfield Acura in Schaumburg, IL! I'd rather it be them who screw up my door.

I am glad that I found this post. I noticed last Friday that my passenger door lock was sticking too. If I lock and unlock consecutively back-to-back, it wouldn't work. I can either lock or unlock at a time. If I wait for 5-10 secs between locking and unlocking, it would be working fine. It is not a big problem right now because not often that I need to lock and unlock back-to-back. I am just afraid that this will get worse over time.

I just passed the warranty period by 6000km. Honda Canada wants me to pay $99 for diagnose and hopefully, they will replace it under good will. What should I do?

I'll be surprised if you guys get outta the dealer's garage for under $100... but good luck. Maybe you're better friends with the service manager than I am...

Well at least I know an Acura dealership should be able to do it for about $100 - I'm ok paying that then spending the time and frustration of doing it myself. I'll have to call tomorrow and see what they quote for time. I have to say, after owning an Acura for years, I'm disappointed that something like this would be such an issue so soon.

On my 2004 tsx, my driver's side lock began going up and down real slow so they replaced it at 49,600 miles. Luck I got it in before my 50k. Bad enough that the passenger's side lock died at 40k.

I just had the driver's door actuator replaced on my 2004 at 70k. Easy fix, covered under my Acura extended warranty. Funny thing was, the passenger side started moving slowly, then the driver's side actuator suddenly stopped working altogether. Now both are fine.

Thanks Nighthawk! This is the answer to my prayers! The STEALER wanted 188 to fix! i went on oemparts.com and i found it for $17.54 plus S&H.

I have a friend that works in window replacing. He might be able to help me out quite a bit. Thanks again!

Hopefully I can get this done before winter.

Honda Canada covered the repair cost 100% for this one. I just hope that the other 3 won't give me any problem any time soon. I am not holding my breath on this one though.

Wow...I didn't know the door lock is another problem. Mine failed yesterday. I'm going to pick up the actuator from the dealer later today and fix the problem.

Add me to the list as of this afternoon... Front driver's side on an '05 @ 39k miles. So friggin' annoying --- the fob is useless b/c you have to manually open the door with the key. I'll give the dealer a call tomorrow since I'm still under warranty...

After replacing mine, I opened up the "broken" one to see what could go wrong. The switch or motor are the only two possible items. The gears and whatnot appear to be working perfectly.

Thumbs up something awesome

So, i have been having the same problem everyone else has been having with this stupid actuator going out. I have been living with it for about a month. It took some time for me to get used to the idea of putting my key in EVERY TIME to lock and unlock the car. I did, however, discover something I should have known when I bought the car....if you turn the key to lock the car, hold the key turned in place inside of the the keyhole and have the windows down, the windows go up. I feel stupid just discovering this after 3 years of having my car....i know, huge embarassment to my fellow TSX'rs. ANYWAY!...that was a side note. Here's what I want to say to you guys....

go to oemacuraparts.com and ask for the part#72155-SDA-A01. They had it in stock when I ordered it and the customer service was i had it shipped overnight but they sent it to the wrong address, i called them back and they refunded me the shipping costs.... part ended up only costing 24 bucks with tax! im gna get it replaced this weekend by a friend that replaces windows... hope everything goes well...

Funny story, I took my car in for an oil change this morning and everything worked when I got there. I got my keys back after they were done, went out to my car and it wouldn't unlock. The service manager already had a rod up his ass over my car becuase I brought my own synthetic oil in for the change. I go back in and tell him it's not unlocking and he has this "you're full of shit" look on his face.... he comes out, tries the thing 30 times and sees it's not working. The lights flash and car beeps with the remote, the trunk opens... the car unlocks manually. So he says "well we only did an oil change... doesn't make sense"... and he looks at me expecting me to say "yeah I broke it".... I said "I'm not accusing you of anything, it's weird... I admit it.. but it worked when I got here... ask your service guy". He tracks down the service guy who says it did in fact work when I got here, so now this guy feels like an ass. He says "maybe it's the battery, maybe the signal isn't strong enough". I think "are you a moron? the car flashes and beeps, it's getting the signal just fine....", but I bite my tongue. They swap the battery - still no go. He then says "maybe it's the actuator... maybe it's failed by coincidence while you're here".....

So after all that they had one in stock, replaced it and viola, it works.

2005 TSX, just shy of 39K, covered under warranty.

only problem I honestly ran into was getting the three phillips screws out of the drivers door that hold the actual lock in the door. "When you open the door on the b pillar you will see the latch, now on the door you will see the lock, you need to remove the three screws. I had stripped all three because of not having the right sized driver, so luckily for me after going to the hardware store and getting a driver set that did not work my neighbour had an extractor which he helped me use and I still reused to screws for assembly afterwards. It was not a great experience but was very satisfying after having the door working after theh fact

awesome bro. thats the same problem i ran into. took about 3 hours. i didnt realize you had to take out the whole freakin' lock module. the screws were screwed in there pretty tight. but, like you said its all worth it when its done.

My driver's-side actuator must have crapped out a couple days ago, I have the same symptoms on my '04. It had been going up and down more and more slowly for a while, probably a year (and used to be under warranty) but I didn't think much about it. I just ordered a replacement actuator from Delray, came to about $28 w. shipping.

I wouldn't have taken it into the dealership even under warranty -- don't trust those fools, plus I'm going to do a speaker install at some point so I'll throw the actuator in when I do that. Doesn't sound hard, I have the Helms manual and the great instructions from Azine!

Funny, I was just reading today that the TSX is, once again, one of Consumer Reports' most-reliable luxury cars. A lock actuator isn't a big deal, but it sounds like it's a problem that spans a few model years and the replacement part is just as crappy as the original -- hasn't been solved by Honda.

This seems like a major issue

Has any one contacted Acura? I'm thinking they should be covering all these failures with a recall. I am calling them tomorrow. I am a three time Acura buyer, and fully expect them to take care of my problem. It seems like an epidemic of bad actuators....

Sounds like this is still an issue. I say still because I had the same thing happen (faulty actuator) to a rear door of a 92 Accord (like 13 years ago). Ironically, the Acura dealer was allot closer than the Honda dealer, so they ended up fixing it. I was around 2K miles past warranty if memory serves (remember it's 3 yr., 36K for the Honda) and I had to pay for it. I wrote a letter to Honda expressing my disappointment in the (in my opinion) pre-mature part failure (and the timing) and they not only responded but reimbursed me for the repair. Sound like Honda still has the same supplier.

My driver lock actuator went out on me a while ago as well. I can tell that my passenger side one is getting ready to fail.... Probably will as soon as the warranty is over... Oh well, I've opened up the door before so it shouldn't be a big deal.

I ended up bring my car to the dealer. They fixed it for free, with little resistance. I explained to them that I saw a bunch of people on the Acura forum with the same problem, and since it seemed that there are a ton of lock problems out there, it should be covered regardless of how many miles are on the car.

Now I can't wait for the next lock to go....probably within the next year I guess.

Thanks for everyone's input on this.

Just wanted to bump for a great writeup. I'm most likely going to be doing this install soon. People seem to mention 3 screws that are hard to get out. Does anyone know if I need an impact screwdriver?

Ended up getting the part from www.oemacuraparts.com

This is an Acura dealership in Phoenix, Arizona.

TSX Front Left Door actuator: Part# 72155-SDA-A01

They had the cheapest price. Order Total: $24.57 shipped to Cali.
