Door Lock Knobs...

Since several people have asked, I figured it deserves it's own thread.

Here's the scoop - if the lock knobs are pissing you off, apparently they can be removed. However, on the '06, it's going to require removing the door panel. I have no problem with this, as I plan on dynamatting the door panel anyways, so I have to take it off.

If you have an 04 or 05, you can most likely unscrew them with out taking the door panel off. With the '06, they have a new assembly that requires a slotted wrench to be put around the base of the lock knob and turned to loosen the knob. I had my dealer show me what to do on Saturday, and he explained the difference between the 04/05 and the 06.

Apparently, as garnered from a search, 2002 VW Passat lock knobs are a perfect fit. I plan on picking a set up to test, and as with my Sirius install thread, I will post lots of pics, I just don't know when I'm going to get a chance to do this.

I may just cut the tsx ones down, or hit the honda dealer and see if the lock knobs on the accord or civics are any different or whatever...

Wow, thanks for the info! I'll look for this thread again to see how those fit. When I've got my doors apart I'll definitly do this. I was planning on dremeling them down, but replacements sound better.

Yes, I had already taken a pair of pliers to it and marred up one of mine trying to get it off before realizing it wasn't going to budge.

So in my 05, all I have to do is unscrew it? Hmmm? If so, that sounds good but I guess I'll have to look for something to cover up the hole so it won't look so ugly.

Just joking man, thanks for the info. Knowing what the proposed replacements will look like would be helpful though.

Are they? According to the one old thread (which search is not finding right now...grrr) they were black.

In my case, I'm doing it to RELIEVE PAIN. That fuckin lock knob sits right at my elbowwhen it's locked, I feel it should be flush with the door...

Good thing I searched this cause I was just going to put up a new thread ranting about these door lock knobs. I like the idea. Some time soon, I am going to have to give this a try.

I also hate it when I put my arm up and hit the door lock This mod would be cool and functional. Can't wait for the DIY.

Worst Case Scenario: You're sitting in the car with the windows up and the car is off. You go to press the "Unlock" button on your armrest, but you soon find out that it's not working and so you try to unlock the car using the key fob, but that doesn't work either. You figure that the battery must be dead so you decide to open it manually, and so you reach for the "door lock knob" but you feel nothing.....because you have just performed this mod.

How do you get out?

I'm not trying to rain on anyone's parade here, but I think this mod is pretty cool too, I just want to know how you would get out of your car in this worst case scenario.

Take your key, crawl into the back, drop the rear seats, then use the trunk release lever in the trunk to pop it so you can get out. It's not the most elegant, but at least it'll get you out of the car.

LOL, another reason to choose the TSX over the TL.

Definitely creative

It was better than my idea which involved a hammer and broken glass

Not for those with built-in amp racks sealing off access to the trunk

Well, in your case, just stay in the car until the grubs completely consume your body...

Cool. Never thought of doing this, and the knob always gets in the way. Looks like I have something to do this weekend.

on your way out the back, go ahead and push the manual lock/unlock switch near the handle on the passenger side.

You guys must be giants if you can keep your arm that high comfortably.

I thought this was a fix for the door lock rattle...but I guess this is just for people who don't want to see the knob at all?

In my accord coupe, the door is locked/unlocked by pushing/pulling a tab near the door handle. Thus, the knobs in my TSX are a little unexpected for me...but I think they look nice and fit the car.
