Thumbs down Don't use the Cruise? ! ?

I heard another rumor today about new car break in methods...Has anyone ever been told not to use cruise control during the break in period. This makes a little sense if you have an automatic, to keep it from downshifting and reving too high...but does it really apply to the 6M transmission???

I've heard it is also in the Accord Users Manual.

BTW, my new TSX is in build right now. Only 50 days left

The theory/reason Acura says that is due to the fact that the cruise control keeps the RPM static for long periods. Acura techs believe that if you vary the RPM you will set the gaskets better. Their theory is dependent on the fact they think most people will vary the RPM +/- 75 during a steady cruise which does, to a slight degree, change the pressure on the gaskets.

Now do I buy all that? Not really, but I spent 20 mins discussing it with them when I picked up the MDX. And against what I consider common sense, did what they asked and left the cruise control off during break in.

Hope that helps answer your question.

Of course I already said I didn't buy their theory. But you seemed to have missed that obvious point.

Have a nice day.

I thought all he meant was that he doesn't use cruise control.

No, it's BOTH! -- but (usually) in a playful way.
