ding on chrome window trim

This morning as I was getting in my car I noticed a tiny dent (<1cm long) on the chrome trim around the top of the window. There is also a tiny cut in the rubber trim attached to it. I don't know what could have caused it. Because of where it's placed it must have been caused by something up near roof level. I don't think it could have been caused by the door of another car. I guess it might have been a rock if it flew up that high, though the angle doesn't seem right. The only thing I can think of is that I had to park my car in a garage in the city two nights ago, and that maybe when the attendant parked my car there was something sticking out around roof level and they swung the door open too fast. In any case, it's really annoying.

Has anyone had any luck getting dings out of the chrome trim, or know of a way to do it? Would one of those ding remover kits work on the chrome?

Is it plastic? I don't know. It looks like chrome. I'll post a picture later when I get home.

No it's not a scratch. Its like a dent. I don't think plastic would dent that way. It must be metal of some kind. It doesn't look like anyone was prying at it. More like the door was swung open and hit something sticking out near roof level.

Sorry for the fuzzy focus. I'll try to post a better one if I get a chance. As you can see, the dent is quite visible. I'm actually wondering how expensive it would be to just replace the whole piece of chrome trim.

The thing that really pisses me off is that I'm 99% sure it was those idiots at the parking garage. It must have been when the door was being opened, because you can see there is no scratch on the roof there which means that it couldn't have happened when the door was closed. The only person other than me who has opened the door is the parking garage attendant. And I know that it didn't happen any time that I opened the door, because I definitely would have remembered - it would have to have been a pretty weird circumstance for only the top of the door to contact something. But I suppose there's no way I can prove it was them.

I'm probably being too anal about this, but does anyone have any experience replacing the chrome trim around the window or know how much it might cost?

I have a dent kind of like that too. Narrower, but goes across the entire vertical height of the trim on the driver-side back door. It was caused by a pair of skis getting knocked over in the garage and falling on the TSX. It's not very noticeable and the damage could have been much worse. I've chosen to ignore it.

Thanks for the link. I guess I would consider replacing it if it's cheap enough. It's not that noticeable if you're not looking for it.

Hmm... Looks like it's under Molding.

004 72465-SEA-003 MOLDING, L. FR. DOOR SASH 1 2004 Acura TSX 46.00 39.10

So it would be about $40 for the part. Not sure how much for the labor. I'll probably leave it.
