cup holder door

Well its seems like there is an hidden internal clock with cars and warranties....

I am currently at 50, 983 miles and as odd as it is, have had 2 small minor problems already since the warranty ran out last week.

The first thing is that my driver door light bulb has burnt out twice in the last week. I replaced it once and then the same night it burnt again. I don't know what is causing it to burn out.....i haven't had time to check anything further.

The next thing is that my cup holder cover doesn't open or close easily anymore. Whenever I open the cup holder, I have to try 3-4 time to open the thing, with a LOT of pressure....it never opens the first push. Once I get it opening, it gets stuck half way open/closed. There is nothing in the cup holder and if I give it a little force it will open fully. Seems like the lid is misaligned, because to get it open I have to push it towards the steering column and open/close it.

Anyone have any idea for the cup holder? Since I am out of warranty, I figured I would take care of this small problem myself....hoping my engineering degree would kick in.

You're only 983 miles out of warranty. Go in and ask if they'll "goodwill" the repairs for you. Often they will if you've been professional with them and dealt with them before.

Have you ever accidentally dropped a penny or a paperclip or something small into the cup holder area? That might be the cause of your cup holder door doing what it is doing. It sounds like something is caught or stuck in the travel of the door.

As for the door light, I would guess there's probably a short somewhere. That is definitely something I'd take to the dealership to ask about a goodwill repair.

Well Paragon Acura will NOT cover anything for me.....they said that I am too far out of warranty for them to help me. I don't think I have ever dropped anything into the compartment

Damn that sucks. Sorry to hear about your misfortune. I'm slowly, but surely creeping up in mileage where warranty repair will be a thing of the past.

Yeah..sorry to hear about that....Like CG said, something might be stuck. Take a look at how the sunglass holder opens. When it's open, from the drivers side, you can see the how that thing works. There's a peg and it just slides down some plastic grooves. Look for a similar area in the cupholder and make sure there isn't anything stuck there.

well it's normal for paragon to crop out, that place sucks. i'd call curry acura or rayelle acura or i'd look at the service manual and troubleshoot from there.

yeah, paragon is really pissing me off. I was there less than 1.5 weeks ago for the oil change/maintenance and just yesterday they didn't top off any of my fluids. I had absolutely no windshield fluid and my coolant was below the min line. I know I gave them the damn card that they sent to my house which was for an "oil change and to inspect hose/belts and top off fluids" Not to mention it took 3 hours for them to do it and they didn't even wash my car (which i guess is better since they just bring it to the drive thru wash) as they do everyone else's.

I am calling acura client services today to complain about this. Too bad to, they are the closest to my house (10 minute drive)

If you open the door about half way, you can see inside to see if there are any obstructions.

Been there. Done that.

Long story short: We kept replacing the cover until it stopped doing that crap. You should be fine even if you're just over 50k miles. They'll probably goodwill this fix.

Check for any dried spill fluid, coke, etc. It happened to my friend's tsx where he accidentally spill some coke and end up dried on the gear on the cover.

Most Acura dealer will take small things under warrenty, my blue led broken and i was at 54k, and my dealer still took care of it. It includes changing the homelink system entire piece worth $400+labor.

Worst case, open it and look at it yourself, you will find how to take that apart using one of the FAQ for center console removal or aux input converter.

That's crazy that they're not covering it, "because you're so far out from under warranty." Less than a thousand miles sounds like something Chevy or Ford would pull, not Acura.

I probably got real lucky, but the differential gear in my transmission just went out (4500 miles out from under warranty) and my Acura dealer (with a call or two from Acura Customer Service) covered it as a "warranty and goodwill item."

If the dealer you're taking it to isn't being cooperative, I'd try a different dealer. If that doesn't work, I'd probably call Acura Customer Service. Less than 1000 miles out from under warranty isn't "a lot," in my opinion.

He never said that they weren't taking care of it. He was making an assumption. If you read my post above, you'd see what course of action will most likely be taken.

<-- 6 years for Honda Motor Co. before leaving last year, so yes, I know everything.

Actually, Kurt... He DID say they weren't covering it. "Well Paragon Acura will NOT cover anything for me.....they said that I am too far out of warranty for them to help me."

You may "know everything," but maybe reading comprehension isn't high on the list??

correct....they will not cover it. They said they want to charge me "at least one hour" labor to open the thing up and "inspect". I will have to pay for any parts that need to be ordered. Their standard rate is $125/hr.

I'll open the thing up this weekend, seems like a headache to get Acura Customer Service involved. Last time I had to get the heater switch replaced because the light went out, I had to go into service 2 additional times because each time they scratched the center console molding and trim up taking it apart. (which were all covered under warranty at the time from the same dealer)

I was referring to his speak of Client Services. They have more say than a dealer. A dealer has the ability to say yes or no to a goodwill, but Client Servies get the DPSM (district parts and sales manager) involved.

He hasn't called them yet it appears.

I have a similiar problem -- I can't get the cup holder door to CLOSE. It just won't "click". I push it down, and it opens right back up.

Good thing is I have 20K miles. I just don't want to have to deal with repairing it and waiting a day and a 1/2.

Paragon Acura is worthless, goodwill is not in their vocab. I suggest trying to fix it yourself, or just leave the cup holder open at all times.

I may try Rallye in Roslyn or one of the dealers in central NJ.
