"Cricket" rattle from lower console area

Let me add a rattle to the list...

I have a cold weather rattle that sounds like a cricket. It started about 5 days after purchase but only shows up in cold before sun/heat expansion. It is coming from the lower console area. Anyone else experiencing the same? Have you discovered the answer?

I took it to my dealer. Try #1 was unsuccessful. Try #2 is coming 11.16.04. I will let you know the outcome.

Mine does that too. It's the semi-verticle seam in the console on the driver's side right where the 2nd compartment door is. If I stablize it (pinch it together) the noise goes away although I can still feel the flexing in that area. ....I don't have a long term solution yet.

Thanks for the reply SacQuacker. You are describing my "cricket" identically.

I think the plan with my dealer is to put some Honda sound reduction tape (apparently used on dashboard reconstruction) in the console seam in question.

Absolutely, keep us posted. The reason I haven't brought mine in for service is that I suspect it may just be a frustrating waste of time. Hopefully, your dealer has found a solution.

had this same issue but its been gone for awhile now (knock on wood). He was right, though. Its the upper center console storage bin. If you press on it (anywhere) even slightly, the noise goes away. All I did was pull it out, and line all the edges and around the snaps with some foam tape (my new best friend...). and the noises ALL went away. I just removed the bin the other day too so I can install the blitzsafe adapter and the tape stayed in place and continues to make no noise.

Bummer: Strike Two

Strike Two.

At bat #3 will be next week.

The "cricket" loves to come out when the sun goes down.

I got it also

I have taken it to the dealer and test drive the car and the rattle did not happen,
over a bumpy road behind the dealership. It seem its coming out of the glove box
area and can not find it. I am taken it back this weekend and do more trouble shooting.

The whole damn console shifts and vibrates over bumps. It makes me think it needs to be better isolated from the floor and body.

Fixed!!!

Yee Haw, it is fixed! The weather conditions here in MO were perfect this week for the rattle to be acting up. We located the "cricket" rattle in my dash and my dealer got it this time! The following is the laymans explanation for the fix.

1. We discovered that the rattle was comin from the bottom of the navi unit area where it connects to the top tray in the console. It was tough to locate because it was inside the console.
2. When the navi unit is removed apparently there are a couple of "points" (I understood this to be "pins") that stick out upon which navi unit rests. When they began to closely examine the area they noticed that one of the "points" had been rubbing against the unit. During cold weather the contraction caused enough space for this to rattle. They also said that there are a couple of clips that hold this down. Perhaps they are not designed with a need to hold the unit from shifting; they just need to hold it down.
3. The dealer insulated both points/pins and now it is tight and without any "cricket" rattle.

I have tested the car extensively without a single rattle for more than 24 hours now in cold/wet conditions this week.

Finally, the service manager at Acura of Springfield (Missouri) knows the skinny on the whole thing. Perhaps you can have your dealer speak with them if necessary to help you rid your TSX of your own "cricket" rattle.

Now I am really loving my TSX again!

Rattle is Finally fixed !!!!

After secound time I have taken it in, they finally fixed the problem.

They have found that the windshield is was sitting on a body plug which was not
supposed to be there. The windsheild was putting pressure on the body plug which was located on the lower right hand side of the firewall of the passenger side. Here is what the Dealer listed of the repair invoice

"4625 Foreign object (Body Plug from factory) 841099 2.0 after identifying the rattle sound on several test drives, there was a body plug found wedged between the front windsheild and the body/dash support. This plug is for exterior use only and has been there since assembly. Removal of object quieted verified noise was gone Plug was saved with repair order after identifying."

This plug was not suppose to be there and the dealer had check other TSX's and they dont have this plug there. Why I had the plug there remains to be a mystery
and considered a factory defect

i am NEVER saying i dont have this rattle or that rattle, bc now i have the dash rattle!

anyway, i know for sure mine is comming from the black plastic moulding right under the cd player that houses the ambient blue light. If you press it you can reproduce the noise and if you hold it stiff, the nosie wont appear. My question is, if i pull out the compartment beneath that, is there any screws you can undo to remove that light? id check myself except im at work now, and id prefer to not remove the compartment AGAIN without knowing for sure when someone on this board is bound to know... I want to put some of my god-like foam tape in between it so make the nosies stop .

Also, my steering rattle which has progressively gotten worse since i first heard it back in February, has gotten so much worse that it makes it over every groove, dip or bump in the road. i can now even reproduce it just by smacking the side of the steering wheel. im going to smack it today while im parked to listen where its comming from. i dont think smacking it while im driving is too smart anymore, as i inadvertently switched a lane of traffic the other day almost causing a econovan to fly off the road...

I know that dealers are sometimes as different as cities themselves. If you are not having success with your dealer, it might be worth a trip to another nearby Acura dealer.
