Unhappy Cracked or Broken Fog Light?

Please post here if one of your TSX factory foglights has been cracked due to road debris.

After only 3 weeks and 900 miles of having my fogs installed, one of mine has a nice hole in it due to common I-5 flying road debris.

I need to know who has busted fogs (thanks to the thin-ass lens) so when I call Acura Customer Care I can properly thank them for such a fine product.

I highly recommend putting Xpel film on them... too bad Xpel only makes a pre-cut for the headlights and not the fogs. I'll probably be ordering an Xpel cut-it-yourself film sheet to protect what's left of my fogs.

Have you ever noticed that shit only happens to the cars that you love? Live and learn.

I've applied this film before. Just remove the black trim ring from the foglight assembly. Rough Cut the film, apply it to the lens, trim it back, and clip the trim ring back on. Voila! Perfect looking film and fog light. And no more cracked glass lenses.

I purchase my film from this company:

I'm sorry to hear that B. I feel for ya'

This just enforces my decision to put the 3M chipguard film on my fogs, along with the hood, headlights, and mirrors.

I, too, am in the category of pissed-off  for having a KIA OEM fog-light after only two weeks in service.

And thanks for the tips on the Xpel and 3M products, MrChad and Visorboy!

Well, I'll be damned... Acura Customer Care is replacing my broken light for free. Xpel is already on the remaining (good) fog.

You guys should check the rsx boards, their having just as much trouble with the lenses as we are. I believe the rsx and tsx use the same lense.

I've had mine for about two months now, and I've noticed they're pitting pretty badly.

I got mine from here...
http://www.autoclearguard.com/index.html
or email ryan@autoclearguard.com

They had the best price I could find. I ordered headlight kit #H1218 ($38) and a foot of cut-it-yourself film #H9906 ($15) for the fog lamps plus $7 shipping. I paid via PayPal.

This is the second car that I've used Xpel on. I just did buy it soon enough, before a fog lamp broke. You can learn more about the product at...
http://www.xpel.com/

It is basically an adhesive clear protective film for lamps (thick film) and paint (thin film).

Xpel in no way reduces or changes the light of the fog in any way? Also can people tell that you have Xpel on your lights?

And if i wanted it for the fog i should order the foot of cut it yourself film?

I don't think that it changes the light output. If you look closely you may see the edges of the film. You will have to order Xpel cut-it-yourself film #H9906 to do the fogs.

Here's what I heard from Xpel when I asked them about Xpel film for the TSX fogs...

"At the moment, the only way to get coverage for your fog lamps is to order the H9906 and cut them yourself. We patterned the lights on one of the first cars to hit the local dealership here, and it didn't have fogs, so we couldn't get the pattern at that time. We do plan on adding the fog lamp coverage to our present design once we can get back over there to pattern that light. Hopefully, the pattern and the new tooling will be complete within the next few weeks."

So, how hard is it to install this kit? It is realatively inexpensive, and looks like a great investment.

FYI... if you used the positioning spray, then they will brown. I have this for my fogs and they are brownish now. I have a pic if interested.

Next time, I'm not going to use the spray b/c I've noticed where the spray didn't hit the lense, the film isn't turning brown.

So, do you have any hints for putting them on without the positioning spray?

The warranty on an accessory is in effect as long as the warranty on your car is in effect. So, if you buy foglights et al. on the same day as you take delivery, you have a four-year warranty. If you buy the accessories one year into ownership of the car, the warranty is for three years.

If you buy the accessory with one year or less of warranty left on your car (or no warranty) then the warranty on the accessory will be one year.

second cracked fog light

my first one (driver's side) cracked about a year after i got the car (november '03)with the dealer installed option (since they weren't standard with my 2004), so i replaced it.
now the passenger's side one cracked (65k miles and two years later) and i'll be damned if i'm going to pay for another one. if i do, it will be to get aftermarket fogs that don't crack as easily.
any chance anyone knows of any tsb on this?
thanks in advance.

The only way the fog lights would be durable is if they replaced the glass lenses on them with polycarbonate lenses...the same material as the headlight housing.

One of my lenses cracked on my 06 TSX a couple months ago, before 4k miles even. I haven't done anything about it since I didn't want to pay to replace it just to have it cracked again. I think I'll start calling some dealers now since BrandonK got it fixed for free, and move up the ladder if they won't honor it. Debris-prone position or not, most fog light lenses don't crack so easily, so it should be considered a manufacturing defect.

the passenger fog light on my 06 tsx is now filled with water. I think when I had my headlight replaced by the dealer they did not put the bumper back on properly. The next time I am there for service I will have them fix it. oh well-shit happens

Sorry to hear about the fogs, but they are cheaper than the oems.

Quick question. Can you replace the oem fogs with the Password fogs, and just throw away the wiring and switches?

Even with a lens protectant such as Rockblocker? I am currently considering a replacement of both fogs, but don't want to throw away $200 for nothing.

My foglight lens was cracked last year in June, when the installation was done in April. Then the other side cracked too last Oct. I got so pissed that I just bought a new set of foglight on e-bay, a set of foglight film to protect any future crack, and a H11 HID kit to enchance it looks and lower the temp, so the film won't melt.

I will see how long it hold this itme.

Do any of you still have the busted fog lights? I am looking a set....or even one to start. I am planning to retrofit some projectors and swap the lense with a glass one.

I tried to start a WTB ad but I can't post anything as I am a new member...

both of my foglights have cracks in them-would love to let you have them-the dealer is replacing both of them for me free-they will probably want to keep them so they can return them to acura. I will ask when I get them fixed.

Pretty good thread revival here, but curious if anyone else has had any luck with the dealerships replacing the cracked/broken fog light lens for them? Just got back from a trip to Baltimore and was washing my car and noticed that my driver side lens is cracked the whole way across. Not sure if it happened this weekend or some other time during the past few winter months. From searching it seems like this is a common occurrence.

I've seen some people get it covered free of charge as a goodwill measure. I was not that lucky. The dealership claimed that every "defect" they send back to Honda is inspected. So if it looks like a rock chip (and of course it is a rock chip they will not reimburse the dealer. It's probably just some BS, but cracked fog lenses from rocks are wear and tear. They just blew it on the fog lights by making them glass.
