Clutch squeal, squak, whatever you want to call it

Hey all,

I've searched this site over to no avail. I have an 04 TSX 6MT and every now and then when taking off in 1st gear I get a very loud and distinct noise from the clutch. The best I can describe it is a squeal or squak. It's loud enough to hear with the radio on and I've even noticed people's heads turn when it happened in a busy parking lot.

Any ideas? The car has 60K on the odo

thanks

The noise I'm getting is not part of the thread above, it's easily heard outside the car and is what I would consider VERY loud. Sounds like it's coming directly from the clutch itself, not the linkage or pedal.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

some guys from another forum trouble shooted and figured it might be the release plate bearing.

Agreed.

It is the clutch 'throw-out' or 'release' bearing.

Happens when taking off in 1st gear, more likely when car is cold, and when making a turn or taking off uphill.

Yep... had this happen on mine a long time ago. During a clutch/flywheel mod, put a new one in. Returned not to long afterwards. I just deal with it now.

Thanks for the info. Should I be concerned with this, any possible damage caused over time? I bought the car as a certified used vehicle so it's still under a warranty and I'd like to get it checked out before that's up.

thanks again

I doubt the dealer will cover the release bearing. I replaced mine at 165,000 kms really due to the squeel driving me nuts. Clutch was still like new but I replaced it anyway and upgraded clutch and lightweight flywheel. Lubed the shaft really good so I hope it does'nt come back like Moda_way's did.

Now I have this issue too =( The first time that I heard this strange sound was a couple of days before, I was moving out of my garage and heard smth that sounded like driving over smth that scratched the bottom of the car. I got out of the car to look what could do that but there was nothing, just clean floor. Now it happens every time that I move on the first on the cold car (it can happen when starting or a bit later and only one time after a car has been parked for some time).
Do I have the same issue and need to deal with release plate bearing? Or is it something else?

I've had this issue since I bought the car @ 23k miles. It comes and goes and the local dealership refuses to take my transmission apart to check it out. Can't blame 'em though

I have this too and the dealer diagnosed it as the throw out bearing. Unfortunately it is not covered under warranty even though my car only has 18,000 miles on it and this never should be happening. So, I deal with it and will replace parts when it gets so bad that I can't drive the car.

I have this issue also. My clutch feels like its on its way out (120k miles) so hopefully the problem will be solved when I get it replaced.

After my ACT clutch broke, had all the clutch components replaced... no noise now. Its the throw out bearing. Same solution though... deal with it until its time to replace.

same problem here, happens intermintly only in first usually when going up a hill or when i have the ac on. Soes anyone know how much to replace the clucth and all compenets..fly wheel throwout bering both cylinders ect.?

Noise kind off sounds like fly wheel grinding on pressure plate nasty metal to metal grind that maybe last for less then one second.
