Clicking noise from left front wheel.

I recently did a brake job on my 2008 TSX, and now there is an intermittent clicking/ticking noise from the front driver's side wheel. The rear pads and rotors were replaced. The front pads were ~7 mm thick, so the original pads, shims, and retainers were cleaned, regreased per the Helm's manual, and reinstalled. The front calipers and rotors were not removed.

The noise is usually only audible with the window down or in close quarters, like a crowded parking lot. The clicking noise depends on speed - approximately 2-3 times per second at 30 mph. Also, the clicking noise will stop when the brakes are applied. The problem is intermittent, and will sometimes start and stop randomly. I haven't noticed any difference in the sound while turning.

Unfortunately, I lost the lug key - Murphy's demon strikes again - so I won't be able to remove the wheel until I get the replacement.

Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

Remove the caliper bolts and regrease them. Mine did the same thing(still do somewhat) until I put some more grease on them. This helps them float better too.

Once this happened to a friend of mine when he didn't tighten the bolts hard enough that hold the caliper to the to the hub.

I finally got around to looking into the problem, and the culprit was one of the pad retaining clips. The lower retainer refused to sit flush in the caliper bracket causing one of the inner tabs to lightly scrape against a section of the rotor. I reversed the upper and lower retainers, and the problem disappeared. I'm guessing the two parts 'wore' differently over time.

Thanks again for the advice.
