Center bin latch broke off!

Was opening my center storage bin (the deep one under the armrest) last night and the little button that unlatches it snapped right off in my hand! It's the left of the two little latches (if you're sitting in the driver's seat). It's only a $3.70 part and looks pretty simple to replace -- I called the dealership to see if they'll give me the part under warranty, which I think they will. I don't want them messing with installing it, though. I don't need greasy fingerprints all over my interior or a scratched door (or whatever injury they end up visiting upon my TSX) over a $3.70 latch.

Just curious if anyone else has had this happen -- didn't find much in searching.

Yep, this happenned to me. I guess we are just that strong Peter!

The dealership replaced it free under warranty. He said it's not normally covered but he would replace it as a courtesy. I had them take care of it while they took care of the trunk harness recall. It's very simple and quick to replace, so definitely do it yourself.

My dealership said they'd likely cover it under warranty, but only if they do the work themselves. I bought the replacement for the broken one, plus the other little latch that isn't broken. No sense doing all that work taking stuff apart only to leave the as-yet-intact latch. You know what would happen there -- in two months that one will break, too.

Just not worth having warranty work done for $12.

Mine was the same way, when you pulled the "big bin" button, the little flat "middle bin" would flop down if you didn't kind of hold it with your finger. It was something I wanted to fix, maybe the button replacement will fix it.

I'll report back upon project completion.

I want to know as well.

And I deserve to know because I posted how to get at the latch assembly in the other thread here a few minutes ago.

I had that happen and it was fixed under warranty. I was told that it was a defective hinge, supposedly that is what they replaced.

You mean the hinge at the back of the armrest, on which the whole thing articulates?

Curls, you are the man. Thanks for the procedure, I'll report back on whether the new latches solve the problem. If they do, they're about $13 shipped from Del Ray Acura for both latches (Parts 19 and 20). I'm also going to give that hinge a good greasing -- it is pretty tight and maybe contributed to the latch breaking off.

Yes. Maybe lubricating it will help. When mine broke it was accompanied by a very loud snap.

I had took mine in for a similar problem where I would only want to open the top part but the damn divider would pop up. It was fixed for like two months but then happened again so fixed it myself and it has been good for like a year.. If this is what you are expiriencing then All you have to do is open both comparments all the way then remove the two philips screws that bolt the armrest in place. remove the armrest then get some wd40 and spray some in the hindge carefully not to get any lube on the leather. next open and close that b#%ch to work the lube in and then wipe off any excess lube and put it back in. Should work.

I just took the whole assembly off and WD-40ed it about a year and a half ago and it's worked like a gem since.

Mine was getting pretty sticky as well and found WD-40 worked really well on giving it very smooth opening/closing action. Now I need to fix the latch though as I smacked my elbow on it when it was flipped up and broke the big bin latch....

I just started having an issue with mine as well. I can't just open the top part to get to the tray without the entire thing openning up. I tried it like 20 times and just kept getting pissed because I have to open everything and then pry the tray part down. Glad to see i'm not the only one.

I'm still waiting on the part from Acura of Del Ray. The local dealer got the part in, they called me today. If I don't hear anything from Acura of Del Ray tomorrow, I'm gonna cancel and buy locally. Thanks, all, for the tips -- I'm gonna oil 'er up good when I have the armrest off.

Yeah, my middle part tray would stick too. Then I WD-40ed it and it's almost too loose now. haha

So start off with only a little WD-40 and see if it's enough for you. You can always add more if you need to.
