CD player works half of the time.

anyone have a problem about their cd player playing fine till like track 7 or 8 and then decide to show a disc error code??

This been happening to me and it happens randomly on both non scratched disc, copied disc, and original disc.

Do you guys think that the tsb for the radio that's out there now will be in effect????

I don't think that should happen....
Bring it to your dealer and have them replace your unit....
Don't forget to duplicate the "problem" in front of their face ot sometimes they'll give you a hard time...... well with me anyways....
Good luck....

My CD player has a hard time when intially reading a CDRW, if I just push the forward track button it starts working fine.
I'd get it replaced if not fixed though...

ok .. tried 2 attempt to have them look at it. and the result is ....
....
....
....
absolutly nothing...

they coudlnt reproduce the problem even though i provided a picture of the disc error i have that i took through a camera phone. they said that the stock head unit isnt design to play cd-r's. in this day and age with technology .. you'd expect it to play cd-r's

now .. they tell me that once the disc error happen again .. i should :
1. cancel all my plans (as if i'm not busy enough with full time student and almost full time work)
2. bust a U turn
3. head to the dealer
4. once at the dealer .. let the car run so it doesnt turn off
5. get a service advisor and have them go get a service tech ..

then they'll replace it.

I cant thikn of any other solution. any one have recomendation?

They do seem to have a good will at replacing the unit.

My guess is they need to see the problem to be able to put in a diagnose, in oreder to get replacement under warranty. The service people act as your representative when your car is under warranty, so they will try and help you as much as they can, but at the same time, they can't replace parts on the sole basis that "the customer said so"

Replacing headunits on any car is a pretty common thing, I work at a dealership so I know.

The dealership I work for usually replace the headunits without question, just cause we have had so many units malfunction on our customers.

But then again, other dealerships (in your case) would want to see the unit malfunction before they'll replace it for you. The reason they do this is not to be an ass. Anything expensive thats replaced under warrenty will have to get sent back to the manufacturer to get tested etc etc.

If it turns out that the manufacturer sees that theres nothing wrong with the unit, they can actually charge the dealership for the parts. The dealership has to watch their own back, so you cant really blame them for not replacing it right then and there.

You should try playing unburned cds for few days just to see if it is really the unit that is screwing up. Honestly, most CD Players that I've seen only act up with CD-Rs or CDRWs. There are so many types of burners and CD-Rs out there, that chances of having a messed up burner or CD-R is far greater than having a bad headunit. The first step to diagnose a problem is to start with the little obvious stuff first.

Hope this helps, good luck!!!

The dealership just wants to see the problem. Not that they don't trust you but if you stick a DVD in your CD player it will also show "ERROR" (I'm guessing here, I haven't done this) so they want to make sure its a faulty unit and not a faulty user.

The dealership telling you the HU won't play CD-Rs is BS. Mine plays them without problem. One thing to make sure is that you use good quality disks (Maxell, Sony both work for me) and that, as TechSX said, the burner is not the problem. Also, don't put those paper labels on your CD-Rs otherwise you run the risk of the label coming off and jamming the mechanism. A black sharpie works fine.

Occasionally I have problems w/ my head unit reading my burnt CD's as well. This has come up as of recent. Should I take it in to get the checked out for possible replacement or is it just user error (i.e. crappy discs). Like I said before I have never had a problem w/ the head unit before since I purchased the my baby, in Dec. 03.

i'm just not happy cus they cant reproduce the problem .. and mainly the service rep telling me it's not designed to play the cd-r's. i just said ok . let me take my car back so i can go to work .. the lady even told me that the cd-r's are main causes of hu failure and that the owner's manual states that it doesnt recomends the usage of cd-rs.

no where in the owner manual said that the hu is not designed or recomends not to play cd-r. only thing remotely close to that is that the manual recomends to use high quality cd-rs and no cd-rws.

and all my cd-r are memorex/tdk cd burnt on a pioneer dvd-r cd-r/cd-rw burner. all burnt cd are marked by sharpie .. no tags, no paper lable .. just sharpie. so i'm runing out of solution and close to giving in to puttin my pioneer lcd into the car ...

That's quite puzzling. You seem to be doing everything right. It must be frustrating for it to happen randomly because that means that neither you nor they can reporduce the problem on demand. Sounds like a bad HU though. Hope it gets found and fixed. Good Luck.

Do you have a video camera? Record it the next time it happens.

Which Acura dealer are you going to, Elk Grove?

Having that Pioneer LCD is not a bad backup plan. I really like having mine

Good luck though man.

I've noticed that CD's that I've burnt at fast speeds (> 8x) causes my HU to skip much more than a CD that I've burnt at slow speeds (2x-4x). I'm guessing its the burn quality.

I know this sounds VERY stupid, but imma say it anyways.........Its pretty much like highlighting a document with a highlighter. If you highlight fast, you might miss a few spots and the color of the marker would look faded. However if you highlight slow, you'll get a brighter color and better results.

i totally understand what you are saying. you're saying that bc it's burning at a faster rate .. it might skip a couple of data bits and leave it "0" (zero). but that's not the case any more with today's burners. it was the case back when cd burner were first introduced it.

and no it doesnt sound stupid . any opinion is never stupid man!!!!

Thanks for everyone's imput.

Tsx536 - lol it doesnt sound bad either but that LCD sitting there not looking stock-ish is askin for my windows to be broken into. but we'll see .... i might even sell the 7300dvd and get a 7500dvd if money permits.

Yeah I hear you man. Well I worry about that sometimes, so what I do is put my carshade over that area when I get out of the car. I have a battery backup for my alarm and a Piezo siren inside the car. You might want to consider getting some of the same things. I know how Sac is though. I lived up there for like 5-6 years, so I don't blame you for worrying a little bit.

Add Fuji CD-R's to the list too.

Oh and to the paper labels. And they don't work well with my Sony Laptop either.
