Cars in the shop

I have an odd whirling noise coming from the car when im doing like 50 and i release the gas pedal. It makes this whirling noise while decelerating and only happens when im at like 3k rpm dropping down. Sometimes i have to blip the gas pedal to get it to do it while its decelerating from 50.

So i dropped it off at Acura Carland and they're taking a look at it. Got a TL as a loaner..nice but dont like the electronic steering

Any ideas on what the issue could be? I had them check the heatsheild when i came in for the recall fix but they stated they couldn't duplicate the noise , but they adjusted the heatsheild and it still came back.

So i dropped it off again yesterday and drove around with a tech and showed him how to get the noise to happen. Drive in SS mode and stay in 3rd and rev it to 3000 rpms and let it decelerate

Went to the dealer later today and they said it was my heat shield. It was rusted and broken and vibrating.
Im pretty sure i asked them to check this the first time around ...

So they are putting in a new one tomorrow hopefully that takes care of the issue!

This dealer is a little off.. so i thought about it and called them after i got home and i was like well now that the heat shield is off go drive it around and see if it still makes the same noise. And the rep was like well once they get the new heat shield on they will test it for the noise TOMORROW .. This is going to be a fun adventure. Though really i dont mind them having my car. Im liking this new TL. They can keep mine for how ever long they wanna goof around with it.

I've been driving the car around and have determined that its something with the transmission. The noise only happens when the car decelerates and the transmission locks the gear and the rpms slowly drop. It does not happen when the transmission disengages the gear completely and the RPMs drop really quickly to like 1.5k ish

Will be taking the car back monday morning and hopefully this will help them find the cause of this weird noise.

I have a similar issue with the RDX. Same whirling type noise, though I hear it cruising and on deceleration. The service manager drove it and thought it was a wheel bearing. It's in the shop now.

They have me a MDX as well. I have to say I do like it though I wish it had a little more power and was more fun to drive like the RDX. Then again it is huge so I guess I can't have it all lol.

Did the MDX feel enormous compared to your TSX?

i really liked the MDX it didnt feel larger for some reason it felt normal to drive, i liked sitting a bit higher up but it didnt feel too high. and the handling was pretty good. Felt solid. But i still miss my TSX.
I dont like the electronic steering on the newer cars i feel too wobbly with every move i make.

got my car back today , they replaced the drive shaft and the shifter linkage or something like that.
Car still makes the noise but now its not as loud but it still makes the noise when decelerating and the gear locked.
They said give them a few days and bring it back.

Most likely the same as what a few of us have reported here.

nope not the heatsheild , they replaced that
and it only happens when decelerating while the transmission locks the gear

if the transmission locks the gears the rpms fall really slowly while decelerating and you can hear this noise

if the transmission doesnt lock the gear and the rpms fall quickly to 0 then you hear no noise.

you could be in the same gear and have it happen or not have it happen depending on if the transmission keeps the gear engaged

Cars back at acura for the same noise and now whatever they did previously has affected the cars downshifting.

While driving if you press down on the gas just a little it will down shift, it seems very sensitive now. So they are looking into that too now and the original noise.
