Car Accident - Need Advice

Hey guys,

So I got into a accident. Nothing to serious, I'm alright and so is the other car. I was going about 15-20 mph. And hit the car in front of me. The other car got minor scratchs on her bumper while i got my bumper pushed in, cracked headlight, and damage to the hood (bent in one spot).

MY question is, can anyone give me a reasonable guess on how the following costs?

New Hood:
Front bumper:
Front Grill
1 Headlight

any and all help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again.

I had a VERY similar accident to yours, damage is almost the same as you described. The GS400 that I hit in front of me got pretty much nothing but scratchs, and a small little dent, while my front end was ****ed up. Although mine was on freeway stop and go traffic at about 15mph at point of impact, all the force was in the front since we were breaking from about 50mph (4 car accident, I didn't trigger it :\ but I was the last one... erg..)

I tried scanning the repair pages for you but I think my scanner is busted, I hope these pictures help.

Parts is about 3000$, rest is labor, the shop covered the deductible too

Only 1 of my headlights broke as well, but the shop replaced both

Wong05tsx,

I can't thank you enough for the pictures this actually helps a lot to give me a idea. My accident was similar but it's not as bad (I will post pictures in the morning. Dark outside now).

I don't think my radiator or any of my car parts where injured in this accident. My car seems to run perfectly fine, the on board computer doesn't display any warnings or errors as well. I'm almost positive it's pure cosmetic damage. So my question is if there was radiatior damage would the on board computer show it? or how could i tell?

Also, if you could try again on the scanning of the repair bill that would also greatly appreciate it so I can brace myself for the overtime I need. I can't thank you again Wong05tsx.

Bumper: http://www.acuraoemparts.com/delray/...FACE_%28DOT%29
$265.80

Headlight:
Right: http://www.acuraoemparts.com/delray/...HEADLIGHT_UNIT
$325.10
Left: http://www.acuraoemparts.com/delray/...HEADLIGHT_UNIT
$325.10

Grille is sold in pieces:
Outer trim: http://www.acuraoemparts.com/delray/...RILLE_MOLDING#
$97.62
Base: http://www.acuraoemparts.com/delray/...GARDE_GRAY%29#
$132.38
Center molding: http://www.acuraoemparts.com/delray/...ENTER_MOLDING#
$85.40
Ring behind A badge: http://www.acuraoemparts.com/delray/...._GRILLE_RING#
$3.80
Front "A" Emblem: http://www.acuraoemparts.com/delray/...MBLEM_%28A%29#
$17.70

so as far as the grille goes, only buy what needs to be replaced.

Hood: http://www.acuraoemparts.com/delray/...OOD_%28DOT%29#
$345.88

So there you go.
Order the parts yourself. You will save lots of money using these links
vs. having a body shop order them.

Hood and Bumper will need painting, probably about $400 or so to paint them.
They will probably have to blend into the fenders too.

So your parts total is $1273.68 if your grille is completely smashed.
$3000 for parts is simply ridiculous unless there's other stuff that needs
replacing of course.

Total job should certainly be under $2000 if you ask me.

If you're not in a rush to get the car ready to go again, by all means get the parts yourself, or even get aftermarket parts (assuming your ins. company gives you the check, and you can do whatever you want with it)
I would have gotten aftermarket parts myself to replace all my damage, however we only have 2 cars in the family and insurance wouldn't cover the rental car if I drove it to work (75 miles away). So I just gave the car to the family friend body shop and they had it fixed and returned asap.
So ya... if you're not tight on time to get the car fixed, get it yourself and pocket the rest, get some mods too!

I'm downloading a new driver for my printer right now, hopefully it fixs it

if there isn't any damage behind the bumper, you could potentially just need a new hood, new headlight and a repaint of the entire front end.

actually looks not so bad.
grille is in good shape.
I'd have to look in person, but maybe just the blackish base
of the grille and the chrome trim is all that was affected.

hood is just bent, but I would replace it.

you need a new right front light of course.

bumper looks okay, minus that white chip thing.

you could get out of this for under $1000 no problem I bet.

I'd have to see in person and such.

my advice:

bring it to a body shop for them to write up an estimate.
have the insurance company cut you a check that matches their estimate.
then order the parts yourself that you need using the links I gave you.
then take it back to that body shop, or another one, and have them
fix only what is necessary to fix.

the insurance may pay you for a whole grille, but there is no way you
need one, all the center pieces are fine. you may get away with just
body work and paint on the bumper too, but not sure about it's fasteners
and such.

this way you'll end up with extra money in your pocket, which I would use
to pay the insurance bill with when it comes in. they will eventually up
your rates a bit I expect, they usually do, like next year or something, use
the extra money from them to offset that.

good luck getting it fixed.

With his comment on needing to work overtime I suspect he doesn't have collision insurance or he doesn't want to use it.

No not that. Still technically need parental support. So trying to figure how much extra work I can do before needing help. But I'm going to be talked to my insurance company and gonna get estimates done soon. So i'll take it from there.

Not to dance on anyone's misfortune, but this is a good example of why a 4 second or greater following distance can save you time and money. 2 seconds is IMHO a bare minimum safe stopping distance, and usually not enough for unexpected collisions.

And before someone chirps "But this was stop 'n go," yes, I know that, which is why I usually have a 4 car or better following distance in a traffic jam, stay in a low gear that allows me to crawl slowly without stopping very often. (Sure people slide into my lane thinking they're "getting ahead," but then learn otherwise.) All for the same reason, if I come close to the car in front, I can just halt in a few feet with plenty to spare.

Again, sorry to see the pics, I had a self-inflicted wound this year and felt terrible. Still do (only $500 out of pocket, but all my fault), but the intensity of infamy fades fast.
