Camber Problems

I took my wife’s 04 TSX to get the tires rotated and balanced and alignment this weekend. Turns out the tires were shot because she hadn't had them rotated since she got the new tires about a year ago. So I got new tires and alignment. The firestone people told me that her Rear Chamber Arm adjusters were bad and needed to be replaced. If they weren't replaced they wouldn't be able to set the chamber right and thus the tires will wear out quickly again. This is of course a 632 dollar fix. So my question is; is it common for the adjusters to go out or is the tire shop trying to take me for a ride.

Here are the specs from Firestone

Front Left
Camber = .3
Toe = -.13

Front Right
Camber = -.2
Toe = -.07

Rear Left
Camber = -1.2
Toe = .07

Rear Right
Camber = -2.0
Toe = -.1

Also, Are the factory Chamber arms fixed or adjustable arms?

Thanks,

Tim

LOL... sorry, but your title says Chamber problem and not camber problem.

You can get a camber kit for very little. Check out Ingalls Engineering through MrHeelToe and/or Excelerate. Also, they install very easily, instructions on the site. Then it is just a normal alignment.

As for their saying they can't align, they are full of shyte. Toe is the issue here, not camber. So tell them to put the toe in where it needs to be and then walk away.

Camber on our TSX is not adjustable in the rear, toe is.

Fixed to say camber.

And are the tires really done for after only a year?

As for what they told me is that the rear arms were worn out and needed to be replaced. They quoted me 202 for adjustable arm, and that is for one side. So 404 for both sides plus 164 in labor. Would you recommend getting the adjustable arms to bring the camber into better spec? Do you know what an acceptable spec would be?

Yes the tires were shot, one had the metal chords showing and another was really close to that. The others two were not as bad but the wear was significant.

Wow, it must be pretty bad, then. I'm not positive, but I could swear someone posted factory specs on here before. Try searching for them using the search function.

Guys:

There is a service bulletin on 2004 and 2005 TSXs. It deals with a defective right rear upper arm.

The service bulletin is at the link below.

http://photos.imageevent.com/astrobo...sb/B06-007.pdf

According to the bulletin, a right rear camber reading of 2.0 as yours has qualifies for the replacement of this part.

Hope this helps.

Agreed. However, toe is what kills the tires and that is completely adjustable from the factory. Spec range in the rear is .04 to .16, so it is in range. However, I've had my toe in range, however, because my TSX was loaded down for a trip, I ate through a set of Yoko ES100s in 1500 miles. Here are the pics: http://www.cardomain.com/ride/389638/11

TimBrown, it is completely possible to eat a set of tires and be in range. Its the negative to our rear suspension. The Ingalls kit isn't necessary and to be honest, you gotta make sure your mechanic knows how to tighten them down as well. So it sounds to me they are trying to sell you the upper camber arm that should be attained by going to Acura per Miamicarfan's suggestion. I just went with the Ingalls to be done with it all.

Moda_way:

Bad camber can also wear the tires too right if it does not have the proper setting?
