Broken Glove Compartment Shock :(

I tried replacing my cabin air filter also…inspired by the 'Why you should change your cabin, pollen filter' thread, lack of reading and knowledge on my behalf I managed to break the ‘shock’ that compresses, and makes the glove compartment slide down easily. Anyone know how much the part would be or what part # I am looking for? Would I be able to change this myself? Or is the dealer going to charge major $$.

Should I live with this, since I dont use my glove box that much anyway?

I have the parts diagram for the glove box assembly (with part numbers), but I'm not sure what part is it that you need. You should be able to take the part to an Acura dealer and have them get you a replacement. If you got it apart to change the filter, I'd think you should be able to replace the broken part.

If youre talking about the damper, through the stealership it will cost around $20. I'm friends with mine so they give me the wholesale list price which is $8.25, it says MSRP is $11 but dealers usually jack up the prices. Heres the diagram.

I'd be surprised if your dealer will gouge you much, or at all, on the list price. If the book says $11.25 (just an example) that's most likely what they'll charge you. If it's more, go somewhere else (try a Honda dealer too; if you have the part number, they can often order it). And let your fingers do the walking; call first for availability and price. Even if they won't order it over the phone (afraid they'll get stiffed), you'll know what it costs and how long it will take to get it (although it's been my experience that there are some parts that it would seem weird that they stock, but with an item like this, if you broke it, it might not be that uncommon for the dealer techs to break it too, so they might keep a supply on hand).

If you take your time, and are fairly careful about removing the pieces that hold the glove box door in place, it's an easy job that is for the most part self explanatory as you proceed. Just keep track of the pieces for reassembly and you'll be all set.
