Brake fluids question: Should it be sticky?

Not sure if this is where Im suppose to post this. Im flushing my brake fluid today, and I notice that the rubber thing on the cap expanded and got sticky. I notice around the top of the cylinder that it was really sticky like the brake fluid just turn sticky like a glue. Has anyone notice this? By the way, this will be my first brake fluid flush on the car. Its probably about 3.5 years. Im also putting on stainless steel lines and rotora cross drill rotors on all 4. What can I use to clean the sticky fluid with? Will brake cleaner be ok. I need a fast respond since Im doing this today, but I will still like to hear everyones opinion. Thanks.

And do you guys put thread lock or some type of seal on the nut that connects to the SS lines?

not just no, but hell no ! Those fittings are designed to be dry and torqued only.

Brake fluid doesn't turn sticky; the "rubber thing" is deteriorating and should be replaced. And don't use brake cleaner anywhere near the master cylinder. I'm not sure what would work best but try to keep foreign chemicals away from the MC.

Well, I forgot to mention that I order a new cap and filter for the master cylinder already. The cap cost around $24 and the filter $18. I just use about 3 bottle of brake cleaner to do the job. I know that sounds like a lot of brake cleaner. I just wanted to make sure I get all the old fluid out. So far everything is good. Just hate breaking in the rotors.

What kind of brake cleaner were you using, and what were you using it for ?
You should have flushed the old brake fluid out with fresh DOT3 brake fluid, and one
liter should have been enough.

OOPS! I meant I used 3 bottles of brake fluid to flush the system. I did use a lot of brake cleaner as well to clean the calipers and rotors.

Thanks nbtx for being the only person responding to my post.
