Battery is Leaking

Hey all,

I was getting ready to detail my engine compartment and noticed that my battery is leaking at both, the positive and negative terminals; there is a lot of corrosion and there is actually some splatter towards the center of the battery.

Any idea what would cause something like this after only 15,000 miles?

Is this covered under warranty?

Thanks,
CeD

If this is the original OEM-installed battery, yes, it is covered by warranty. The OEM battery warranty is 24 months from the original in-service date. After that (25-36 months), the coverage is 50% parts covered by the factory and the rest is due from the owner of the vehicle.

Awesome... I'll call the local dealer in the morning.

Is there anything specific which I should be alarmed about? I'm sure it's not normal for this to occur after just 15,000 miles?

This is definately NOT NORMAL, but you shouldn't be alarmed. Flawed batteries do exist. It's just a bit rare to see this occur at such a short life.

Just make sure you have the card in your portfolio that has your radio/navi code on it before they disconnect your battery. You're going to need it the second you try to turn your radio/navi back on after the battery is replaced. If you don't have this number, refer to my advice in post #17 here.
