battery drain or alternator problem?

Reposting it in the correct location,

Hi All,

I own a Acura TSX 07 model, the battery started dying since yesterday. I used the jump starter to power it up but by evening I again see the battery getting drained as it was struggling to start but started. I am pretty much sure it might drain out by morning again. Before going to the dealer, I would like to if there is a way to check if the issue is with the battery or the inverter?

Thanks,
Ub

Replace battery. If it has a bad cell it won't hold a full charge. OEM batteries are good for 3 -4 yrs.

65k, I am not sure if it is original or not? It is a used car purchased the at Carmax.

I agree with the advice to replace the battery (though I'm not a member of the "bash the TSX battery" club).

65k seems to be too early for the alternator to go bad; although it could happen. Chances are that your battery is going bad. You might even still have the original battery since it's an 07. Original batteries will say Panasonic made for Honda somewhere on the label, and even has the "eye" to see charging/discharging color on the top.

I had my original TSX "100 month" battery since May/06 and I just replaced it in Sept/11. The TSX gave me a few days of warning and I had time to replace before I was dead in the water. My RDX OEM battery just went 100% dead after 3 years in the middle of the day with no prior warning signs. Anywhere from 3-5 years is the normal range for a car battery with 4 being the average.

I purchased the 75 month Interstate Mega-Tron 51-R installed for about $100+tax. Interstate can test your battery before replacement to make sure that is the problem. The +20 years of driving 10 Honda/Acura to +150,000 miles; I never had to replace an alternator.
