bad experience at the acura dealership? hmm
so yeah i went in and got my 15k service a while ago and asked them to check the brake pads. when i got the car back they said i had 4mm in the front and the rears... first i thought this was a little weird because i try and engine brake as much as possible and i dont ride on the brakes too hard in the first place. me being the lazy fucker that i am didnt bother taking the wheel off to check so i just assumed they were correct. i went in for my 20k service and asked them to check again and they said i had 5mm in the front and 7mm in the back... i get home and get my hands dirty and i say i have about 5mm both front and back.
see my dillema? i work full time and go to school full time and i think those fuckers were trying to scam me out of my hard earned money -_- i keep receipts of all my service so im ok there.
what should i do, should i purposely fuck up my brakes so they replace it for free? what would you guys do in my situation.

red font = sarcasm?
the service rep basically told me if anythign happened they would replace the whole system for free... i was looking to just replace the brake pads but if going to get new rotors, lines, pads for free then yeh....

^ they reported the wrong measurements... which really makes me question their service people... because i went home and i read 5mm front and back..
has anyone else had any issues with their brakes going back this early? ive had 240's and civics that had stock brakes last longer...

New pads have 11mm front 9mm rear thickness and a service limit of 1.6mm. So your pads still have a long way to go. An experienced technician can easily gauge if the pads require replacement or not base on the service limit. He may not even need to physically measure it. I wouldn't worry about it. That's how it is when they perform those "inspections" during the maintenance services.

The owner's manual actually recommends using the engine for braking on long down-hill grades to avoid overheating the brakes.
The actual braking effect is caused mainly by engine compression (e.g. compressing the air in the cylinders), which (at least in theory) is easier on the engine in terms of forces than actually running it under load, -- but you never know what wierd things engineers will do. Still, I wouldn't expect much if any impact on the engine itself from this.
Still, brake pads and rotors are much cheaper to replace than clutches and synchros.

its not like im not using the brakes when im coming to a stop, i just dont like coasting on them or braking hard.
ive only had to replace a clutch on one of my manual cars and that was on my first 240. maybe what i think the definition of engine braking is actually wrong.. everyone i know who drives a manual car has told me to do this method because its easier on the brakes and easier on the clutch as well. this thread has gone astray lol.
