The Armrest is making me mad (Problem Thread)

Has anyone besides me had a problem with the damn armrest on the TSX?

You know how it seperates so that if you lift the left lever (closer to the driver) you access the tray on top and if you lift the right lever (closer to the pass) then you access the deep storage area? For the 3rd time the two will no longer seperate themseleves. If I lift the right lever to access the deep storage its fine, but when I try to get to the tray on top it always lifts up with the top of the armrest. They've replaced the hinge twice now the last time being this past weekend and its already broken again. I seriously doubt its the hinge anymore.

After they replace the hinge the armrest seems very loose and smooth and works fine but it seems to get harder after a day or two to the point where it no longer works after 5 days.

Has anyone else experienced this problem? I'm ready to

When you have to go back to the dealer 3 times for the same f#$%king problem you'd be pissed as well.

Not to mention my second set of front rotors lasted only 15,000km (9375 miles) and ny driver's side headlight now has condensation the car is starting to get under my skin.

That sucks. I have no problems with mine yet (knock on wood).

It sounds like the secondary cover is not latching properly to the deep storage area or the arm rest cover does not fit properly and is wedged too tight to the secondary cover. I'll check my arm rest this weekend to see how they latch on to each other.

It sounds like the dealer just replaces pieces without finding out why it is malfunctioning.

Just like with my rotors. I explained how them needing replacing every 15K worried me and they basically said if thats the case we'll keep on replacing them for you? The problem is either faulty rotors or the car, but please find out which.

That dealer is ridiculous, isn't there something in the "lemon law" where if they fail to fix a problem after a number of attampts it's a lemon? Replacing a part and having the problem return is not fixing the problem. They should indicate what caused the part to malfunction.

If they said they are going to keep replacing the rotors for you (assuming free of charge) you should get that in writing, because what happens when the warranty expires?

The first time it took me awhile. I always felt a slight vibration under barking but figured it was the road surface. Then one day I braked hard from 140km and the vibration was so bad it was hard to keep the car straight. For the second set I repeated hard braking from 140km and it wasn't nearly as bad but there still too much vibration.

I see no reason as to why it won't happen again with this third set.

Yes, he implied free of charge. The guys at the dealer have been great with respect to service. They never questioned me once about the brakes it was as simple as "no problem we'll replace them" He did say if it happens again we'll look into it further so we'll see. This is a common problem around here. My warranty is up in 10,000km but I assume the warranty on the rotors is different since its a new part.

Same dealer.

Like I said the service has been great especially since a card for an online survey gets attached to every service job paperwork. If my rotors go again (which I'm sure they will) I plan to do something, not sure what but something.

I think my rotors are warped again too. I had mine replaced at the 15k maintenance, and now they seem to be doing the same thing, although not nearly as bad as what you say you're experiencing. I figure I might be able to get a new set of rotors out of the dealership before my warranty is up at 45k (I'm not even at 30k right now even though I went ahead and had the 30k maintenance done).

And what are we supposed to do when the warranty is up? I beggining to seriously doubt that the rotors are at fault here. And if is is the car causing this what the hell are we supposed to do then?

In the tray. I just put my iQue in there when I'm not using it and it seems to give it enough weight to separate the tray from the storage compartment.

Sorry to hear about this dom. I've never had a problem with my tray, other than it squeeks like crazy. I think my rotors may be very slightly warped but I'm not sure. Sometimes its a bit rough, some times its OK.

I've got a bunch of things to lay on them when i go in so you warm them up for me

You shouldn't have to do that though.

Maybe I'll stick a 5 pound weight in my tray

For the 3rd time the two will no longer seperate themseleves. If I lift the right lever to access the deep storage its fine, but when I try to get to the tray on top it always lifts up with the top of the armrest. They've replaced the hinge twice now the last time being this past weekend and its already broken again. I seriously doubt its the hinge anymore.
You talking about opening the thing with one-hand , right ?

Brake from 140 and then let me know. Right now mt barkes are perfectly smooth when I stop its an obvious difference. Like me the first time you may not have realized the warping since it was gradual.

The guys at Acura 2000 have been great. I even got a call at work yesterday to talk about the service I received Saturday. But if they can't fix these problems the domn is going to start laying the smack down.

Yes, you should only need one hand. You'll need two hands when its broken like mine.

Is this rotor thing a common problem with the TSX when you have 10K miles on them. Could we make a poll in this thread on the rotor issue? I am looking at aftermarket rims for next summer but if rotors are an issue I don't want Acura to use aftermarket rims as the cause for warping the rotors.

i have that problem with my armrest.

also i'm very annoyed b/c my armrest now SLAMS shut if it open partially, where as brand new it would stay open.

of course the dealer told me that it was designed that way, and i asked him, it's design to SLAM when you don't open the armrest fully/

and moron dealer replies - yes, the armrest is very heavy and can not support it's own weight.

what a foocking dumass. is this guy really that stupid? i'm convinced that dealers are so lazy, they become illogical stupid.

i'm pissed too! top 10 car my ass.

by the way dom, i've decided after reading several of your threads that you are one crazy ass driver. If I see a TSX taking 90 degree turns at 100km/h and then accelerating to 140km/h and slamming on the brakes, I'll know its you

I have that same issue with my rotors... I took it in and they couldn't find anything wrong...and of course it didn't replicate itself when we went out for a test drive. I took it to a different dealership and they couldn't find anything, but resurfaced my rotors and were fine till now...again

I don't want a new car and these problems were to be expected with a first model year. I just want them fixed which I know can be done. But the brake issue is really worrying me.

The brake/rotor issue is interesting. My 97 Teg always had trouble with the front rotors. They always seemed to get warped too. Maybe it's a common Acura symptom.

The brakes on my 98 GS-R at 48,000km felt like they did when I first brought it home. Never changed a pad or a rotor on that thing. Same with my 00 Civic. At 75,000km never touched the brakes, it was certified and traded in as is.

Thats what pissing me off about this car, my two previous Honda experiences have been great and this one isn't bad, I mean there small problems but annoying having to go to the dealer all the time.

I have a suggestion about the brake issue. First, loosen the lugs nuts on each wheel (one at a time with car on jack, of course) and retorque properly (~75-80 ft. lbs.). Over tightened lug nuts can cause warpage. I developed a similar problem and resolved much of it by doing so. I also had a similar problem on a T-Bird my wife used to have. Every time the dealer rotated the tires the rotors would warp. After a couple of resurfacings or replacements I started checking the lugs each time. Never had to have them reworked again.

Other issues are driving style (late braking from high speed, etc.) or driving in stop-and-go traffic. Also, I've had the problem occur while driving in the mountains and having to brake for slower traffic, especially going down hill. When it's caused by that it will often go away on its own when things cool down.

Beyond that it's a rotor quality issue. Maybe we should have a poll on this one.

I would have hoped the dealer would properly torque my wheels back on. When I have changed wheels from all season's to snow's I always use a tourque wrench.

As for drivin style, I have never had this issue on any of my previous 4 cars.
