Armrest Doesn't Open Correctly
Armrest Doesn't Open Correctly
So for the past week or so my armrest got messed up somehow. When I try to open the first tray (with the coin collector) the whole thing just pulls up. I don't know how to be more descriptive. Pretty much I can't access the tray by pulling on the left handle, it just yanks up the whole thing. There's no sign of wear or anything snapping off. Any advice?
i had the same problem...it bothered the crap out me only when i want to open the bottom part the top part keeps falling off...i took it to acura and they said it was the hinge..they said it was binding up somehow and they had to order the part..they fixed it about a month ago and now its doing it again..i haven't had a chance to bring it back since....

For a warranty fix like this do I have to bring my car to the original Acura Dealership I purchased my car from? Or would any Acura Dealership do?
Also for my 10k service, can I take my car into any Acura Dealer?
What happened is that the little tabs that are suppose to keep the coin tray flat & attached to the big tray while you pull up the arm rest is worn down.& this happens because the hinge is so tight that the tab can not hold the coin tray in place when you pull up the arm rest ...... very annoying.
You can take it back to Acura & ask them to replace it. But it will just happen again
Spray WD-40 on the hinge that the arm rest & coin tray (as you call it) pivots on ...it is a mess. it drips. I recommend placing paper towel down & make sure you wipe up all of the excess.
I did this last summer after I installed my short shift kit. The problem is the hinge it too tight... lubricate it.

This happened to me twice. They replaced the hinge both times and it was fixed for a few days but the problem came back. What I did was gently push the top part of the armrest as far back as I could while holding the tray holder down. This basically strecthed and lossened up the hinge (I think) and the problem hasn't come back since.
Yeah mine does that too. I thought it was just from me taking apart the center armrest too many times and messing it up.
It use to bug me when I was keeping my garage door opener in there. But I don't put it there anymore, so I've forgotten about it for now.
They should have designed the thing better though cuz those tabs definitely get worned down over time and it sounds like it's happening to almost everybody.

This is the best thing to do. It will keep it smooth for 3-4 months.

I took the same problem to the dealer, and they sprayed wd-40 on it. while it did do the job, i was kinda bothered that they did that instead of replacing the thing. Is it just me? Wouldnt you guys feel the same way?
And it was pretty messy, the whole thing was kinda greasy.
