Anyone ever get 'random' VSA and "!" lights?

I'd say about 5 times in the last 10 months, I've been driving and then noticed that my VSA and the /!\ light have come on. Nothing out of the ordinary in terms of terrain, speeds, or manouvers.

Most times I just turned the car and back on at the next intersection and the lights were gone.

Any idea why this might happen so randomly, and should I be concerned? Has this happened to anyone else?

Thanks.

btw, pressing the VSA on/off button doesn't affect these lights once they're on.

Have you read through the owner's manual to see if those lights signify anything potentially serious?
If there's nothing there, call your dealer or whomever does your servicing and ask them their opinion.
5 times in 10 months (assuming you're accurate) would be more a case IMO, of a loose connection or something perhaps benign causing this 'problem'.
Just out of curiosity - what was the weather conditions like when these occurrences took place?

My car is out of warranty so calling the dealer would only cost me $$, when I know people here are, for the mostpart, smarter (and free!).

IIRC, the weather every time has been slightly damp but I can't be certain. This morning when it happened, it slightly damp roads, temperature about 4*C.

Do the lights stay on or do they "flash" like you lost traction?

They stay on. Normally when the system is helpign you regain traction/prevent udnersteer, it only flashes the /!\ light. In my case when this problem happens, I get both the VSA and the /!\ on, steady (not flashing).

The VSA light is one you can see in the first few seconds after turning the car on but then goes out shortly thereafter, after the self-test is completed.

Had this happen to me. The VSA sensor needed replacing.

How often did yours occur before you finally brought it in for the replacement? And i assume it was udner warranty? I have no idea what this would cost me and I don't think I want to know. Any part with the word "sensor" in its name means the price is sky high.

Holy crap... if it is the
011 39960-SEA-003 SENSOR ASSY., YAW & G 1 2004 Acura TSX 535.39 428.31

Then it's over $600 CAD. I'd go w/o VSA before I replaced that part.

The problem had been there about 2 weeks before I finally brought it in. And yes it was under warranty, about 20K if I recall correctly. I kept all my service records but this happened on my AT and I gave all the service records to the dealer when I traded it in.

I'd advise you have the dealer look at it, tell you what the problem is and then find out if its something you can replace yourself. Maybe hit a scrapyard for the part.

Last time I checked, dealers have service managers who don't charge to give advice on potential issues.
One way "round" the warranty is to see if you can purchase an extended warranty at this stage, not volunteering the info. Give it couple of months then have it done.
Bear in mind it has to be cost effective, but also bear in mind too, that other parts may start wearing out, so it could be worthwhile in the long run.

My history w/ the dealership has meant lots of business for them, but I'm also a very keen customer, and the service advisors for the mostpart hate me for it. LOL. Good idea though!

Oh Yea,
Just last night,
my 2006 TSX MT,
Had the following lights and warning messages ON!

"CHECK VSA" "!"
"CHECK ABS"
TRACTION CONTROL /!\ light stayed on. !!!!

Why"??

I simply went tray sliding, Putting Fast Food trays under the rear tires, and pull the handbrakes and drive and go nuts with it in a parking lot.

It was fun buy annoying the car keep beeping with all these warning lights, but as soon as I drove "normally" all 4 wheels going at the same speed, all lights and flashing lights, beep was gone.

I would call Acura and let them now what's going on with the VSA and they should atleast split the cost with you. How many miles or k/m is on your car?

102,000km. I believe this is only covered by the 60,000km warranty, which means there is no way in hell they'll split it with me. They wouldn't even cover the O2 sensor that was dead (and throwing a CEL) a few weeks ago since its only covered by the 60,000km warranty.

I'm not looking for warranty coverage here, as it's a lost cause. I'm looking for ways to diagnose/test/fix this really intermittant and random problem.

In fact its not even a big problem in my eyes, I was just wondering if its happened to anyone else. If it becomes a permanent problem (ie: VSA totally disabled, permanently), then i'll look into getting it fixed.

I've had the (!) light flash twice since I've had the car (since Jan 06), without any provocation/turning/slippage. I don't know why it did it, but I'm keeping an eye out on it. Sorry to hear about your prob, Curl. I hope it gets resolved. BTW, I'm also a G2 teg --> TSX convert.

What I am describing is that the lights STAY on, not just flash... they stay on until I turn the car off and back on.

Flashing could be anything from slight loss in traction (oil on road, etc...) to a possibly hiccup in one or more of the wheel sensors or the yaw sensor. The flash indicates that the system temporarily intervened. The light staying on means the system has gone into protection-mode and disabled itself.

Curls, I have the same issue with mine. Did you ever get the car looked at by the dealer?

Hey crisco...

No, to be honest it never happened since the original thread was created about a year ago. So I never bothered to go get it looked at. Very strange but I'm not complaining!

hmmm, interesting. My brake indicator comes on at each stop, and the VSA light comes on sporadically. I'm pretty sure the VSA is not functionning either. The ABS works though. Guess I need to get this checked out.

That sounds like it could be your parking brake cable needing an adjustment.

...Or it could be something way more serious since it's the brakes we're talking about. I'd get it looked at.
