air flow smell .....need help

i have a 2006 tsx. i have been smell something like " old stuff" from the regular air flow for a few weeks.(i can not smell it when i turn the AC on) then i thought it was the cabin air filter..then i changed the old cabin air filter with a purolator but the smell retain. i can not figure out what is it.. and that kind of smell is hard to describe... anyone have the same problem?

It could be mold from standing water in the a/c evaporator. Use a pipe cleaner or a coat hanger to clean out the a/c drain tube that is on the passenger side of the firewall. You can pull out the cabin air filter and spray lysol where the filter sits to get it pulled through the vents and kill any bacteria and mold from there.

The smell is a mildew that grows in the evaporator in the passenger compartment. The mildew thrives in this wet environment after the air conditioner (or car) is turned off.
There are treatments consisting of a spray that can be introduced into the fresh air intake that kill the mildew. To prevent future growth of the mildew, turn off the air conditioning compressor a few minutes before turning of the car - the air flow will dry out the evaporator area and the mildew cannot grow.

Any kind of disinfectant spray will work, Lysol is one for example.
