Exclamation Air conditioner wooping sound?

So yesterday I was driving as usual, and when I stopped at an intersection, this strange 'Woooooooop!' sound came from under the hood. It happened a few times afterwards, and only when the A/C is on and the car is not moving.

Today the same sound came from under the hood, I quickly turned off the A/C, and the sound immediately stopped.

I have a 2006 A/T with ~23K miles. The A/C seems to work fine, and I just recently (22,000 miles) replaced the cabin filter with an Accord one from the Honda dealership.

Anyone have any ideas on what this could be?

It's an expansion valve somewhere in the AC circuit. Some people have had it fixed by having the system recharged while others have required the valve being replaced. Mine is going into the dealer on Monday for it.

ask the dealer to drain all the freon out and just recharge the system and run it for a while. i had the same problem and after they recharged it, it never happened again. *knocks on wood* it's been a while already. i have a 07

Can this valve affect anything adversely? I was thinking of having the dealership look at it in a few months when I take my car in for service. Would I hurt anything if I wait for a little while?

dmikon,

i have the same problem. it's friggin annoying. actually, its embarassing to have passengers in the car when the a/c makes that noise.

is this something that can be fixed under warranty?
