Air Conditioner Smell
Hey guys. When I have my heat on but my AC off, I do not smell anything. But when I turn the AC on along with the heat, it gives off a weird smell. Does anyone notice this? Sometimes it's strong enough to feel like my nose is somewhat burning. Could this be bacteria in the AC?

I've experienced the same thing...
with my TSX. I normally do not use the A/C, and have kept the "Auto" temperature set on 67 with the A/C off using the manual override. I think that the smell is possibly mildew / bacteria on the condensor coils, and when you turn the compressor on for the first little bit, this is the smell that we're experiencing. I'm not really sure, though, and this is just my best guess. I am going to mention it to the dealership when I take my car in for its third oil change.
Have any others experienced a similar smell when turning on the A/C after not using it for a while?

^^ I have experienced it in my Integra quite regularly, and in my wife's Civic as well. So far I don't recall smelling it in the TSX. I think its a common occurance with Honda made vehicles.
What I used to do to address this is to get a can of Lysol (or other anti bacterial spray) and spray it into the air intake vents at the base of the windshield while running the A/C full blast. It seemed to work for a few months and then I had to do it again. I wound up doing it like 2 or three times a year, mostly in the summer when I ran the A/C a lot.

It's just the new car smell but concentrated in the channel for heating. New car smell is mostly solvents and plastic gases. Maybe that's why your nose was burning.
