6MT owners: Shift lever buzzing?

Hi guys,

I have a 2006 6MT and for the longest time I've noticed a rather annoying buzzing in the cabin when cruising on the highway in either 5th of 6th gear (5th is worse). I always thought the noise was coming from somewhere on the passenger side of the dashboard, but today I realized the sound goes away when I steady the shift lever (press it against the gate in 5th gear). Seems like the buzzing is coming from somewhere in the shift linkage. Anyone else have this problem? I'm a little reluctant to have the dealer take apart the whole center console to only find nothing wrong

Thanks!

Not what you want to hear, but I'll bet you you're one of the small percentage of MT owners that ended with cars that have something in the drivetrain assembly that's on the outside edge of "factory clearances". I may be wrong, but I'll bet you there's nothing to be done here.

If you want to try and trouble shoot this yourself, pop the top part of the of the center console out (there are lots of threads covering this but it basically comes down to gentle yanking and prying). Then have some one drive while you poke around and listen.

It's kinda funny when I see this thread, because my 5AT does too.

However, the buzzing sounds is not from the gear level, rather the sound is coming from the centre arm-rest. When I pressed my arm on it, it stopped.

Another buzzing sound in my car is the front passenger speaker, piss me off.

That sucks. My 08 seems to be quiet so far, then again it's only a tad over a month old...

Sorry to hear golfboy, Also have a 2006 6MT with 25k miles. I am stock except Yoko AVID tires and RSB.. No buzzing in any gear, on any road type. Just did a 100 mile ride on the highway at "highway speeds" and nothing.
