6MT loose lever?

Guys,
I haven't had my 6Mt too long but the shift lever seems to have a lot of play to it, especially in 1st and 2nd gear. As a reference, my former daily driver was an integra GSR which had an outstanding feel to it. Any thoughts? Has anybody else who has driven both cars (GSR and TSX) noticed this?

Thanks.

I've driven both, and I don't feel the TSX shift lever being "loose".

The lever seems to have more play in it than my GSR. I used to drive a Neon and it felt the same way. I can hear/feel the mechanism under the shift tunnel, especially moving it back and forth in the neutral position. My GSR shifted without the extra play and I never heard anything.

Maybe back to the dealer?

It's quite possible your wore the bushings out in the linkage or it could be the linkage is loose. That's my guessing. I would remove the trim around the shift knob and have a look, unless of course it's under warranty, then by all means take to the dealer .

I used to have an integra with a dc short shifter and those gears were TIGHT, so I know what you mean about the TSX. I think thats just the way it is, its a different type of shifting mechanism, kinda reminds me of a 2000 honda prelude the way it shifts. Throw the comptech on there and love the 6 speed!!!

The difference is the shift mechanism. On the Integras, the tranny uses a rod linkage. On the TSX, the linkage is a cable linkage. You're always going to get slightly more play in a cable linkage than in a rod linkage.

Ah yes... thank you CGTSX2004. The 'ol Neon had cable linkage too so this makes sense. I haven't had good chance to get under the hood, etc to look for loose parts but I will do this before i have the dealer confirm that it is normal.

Cable linkage...in that case...ignore my comment on bushings , I really should study my vehicle before posting from background knowledge
